top 100 unis in The Economist, nus not even in the top 100

now what happened to the government's boasts about being "top 20" and pushing towards "top 10" when based on achievements we arent even in the top 100?
definately more reputable and accurate than the nonsense times of london ranking this one done by shanghai jiaotong university and the economist is based on achievements such as the number of nobel prize winners etc.

Rankings are not everything. They can be rather misleading in fact.

The best way to rank universities is still by the outstanding students they produce, like those graduates who go on to become high paid CEOs, presidents, nobel prize winners and stuff - basically outstanding achievers... since there's no such things as O levels or A levels, the best way to rank unis is still by the outstanding students they produce. That may not be the most accurate but it's the best way.... that's how they have been ranking unis for so many years

what's the use of denigrating our own local university?
you have to recognise that there are a range of university ranking scales in the world. and the The Times Higher Education Supplement, which ranked NUS as 18th is no propaganda machine.

we ask why do u keep insisting our unis are world class?? What does one single times higher education supplement prove, compared to hundreds of ranking systems out there in which certain unis consistently come out top.
it's the attitude that becoz of one ranking, we think we are high up in the clouds.... hello???!!! time to wake up. stop talking about the london times higher education supplement ranking and start working towards other more renowned rankings...
just because we had one home run, we kept talking about it... dont you feel tired? It is this kind of attitude that's holding us back...
it's great we came out top 20 in this one ranking, yes we celebrate that and now let's move on..... stop tokking about times higher education supplement and how credible that ranking is!!!! -
