first of all, dinosaurs didn't die out in 1 single instant.
there were 3 main periods in the era of dinosaurs.
i not going to say the names of these 3 periods, or else someone call me snob again.(although i know i'm very wise in certain fields that are not recognized in SG........why am i even born here? )
anyway, there were 3 main periods in the era of dinosaurs.
the more primitive dinos lived in the 1st period. they died out slowly overtime(survival of the strongest) and most evolved to became those like the Brachiosaurus with long-necks, huge bodies and long tails that kind and other sub-types.
then came the 2nd period. lots of dinos thrive in this period, but because of constant changing climates on the earth(the earth was still very young and the atmosphere still wasn't stable then), half died out and a half further evolved.
all these survivors and evovled species became those like the Hadrosaurs, T-Rex and Triceratops etc. it was exactly at a point around 65 millions years ago that a number of asteroids hit earth. the asteroids didn't all hit at once.
an asteroid came first, and slam into earth so mightily that it block out all sunlight and gave a sudden change of climate until the dinos cannot adapt fast enough. the herbivores die first, followed by the carnivores and omnivores.
some still managed to survive, but later came a 2nd asteroid. with that kind of one-after-another blasting, it was no surprised that all died out.
