if wanna buy tv what brand is recommended?

Panasonic brand my mum hse last for 15 yrs.
My hse sony last for 7 yrs,then Akira now with me abt 3 yrs so far so good TOUCH WOOD

the monitor of my first PC was a Philips one.. decided about 2 weeks after the warranty that i can read everything in a 2mm line...
my friend's Philips 29" tv blew up.. literally.. smoke, sparks, fire, kablooey! a few days after warranty expired... took out the fuseboxes of his flat and about a few apartments around him!
a Philips VCR which we got free because we bought something.. decided to become haunted about 3 months after the warranty expired.. we don't record stuff using the timer but it decided a few times to just turn on and record stuff... wiped out a few things in the tapes we left inside... then one day, after being haunted for a while, decided it was hungry and ate up a tape and melted some of it...
a Philips Stand Fan (again, some kinda free gift from things bought).. brilliant engineering... metal blades, metal axle for the blades, plastic screw to hold the blades to the axle! plastic screw disintergrated after a few year and blades went flying against the metal grilles, sparks, noise destroyed grille and blades!
nothing in the house from Philips.. ever!

Aint all such TV brand maker source for same components from roughly the same supplier? Unlike the old times, nowadays electrical appliances are not built to last. Logic is simple. Force customer to go back and buy a new one again so those brand makers can continue to earn money feed it's employees.
So be it wat brand wat brand all should be sama sama....... anyone got insider news of top down orders to engineers to purposely build last only a few years appliances ?

what about LCD tvs?
my room's rather small in size. i'd give it.... 3m by 2.5m. the bed already takes up almost half the room.
when i was in japan, the inns i stayed in were using WEGAs and TRINITRONS. i think i'm hooked. maybe i should get a small tv, and then get either 1 of those 3 years later -
