a recent survey done among sgean, japanese and american students showed that sg kids fear failing exams MORE than losing their parents! compared to japanese and american students who are ambitious, wanting to be an athlete or a musician, sg students just want to grow up and have a big, luxurious house with lots of money!!!
this is so shocking to me, but it was expected.

Reminds me of a Pri 6 kid who killed herself a few years ago because she didn't get the aggregate she wanted.
Nothing wrong in wanting our kids to do their best.... but we're pushing them too hard.
And when we push too hard, there will be those who fall over the edge - metaphorically, and sadly, literally.

That's why they fear failing exams more than losing their parents. They felt that their parents put a lot of pressure on them, so no parents better. well i was so afraid that i couldn't get the scores i wan till one day i broke down n had mild depression.. i kept forcing myself to study then end up like that

Singapore education no life man...lots of loop holes & lots of experiments like scrapping off O levels this & that.
Migrate then if anyone feels that it is not doing good for your child.
Anyway our employers sometimes accepts foreign certification from US, Canda & UK w/o considering to browse local degrees cert when it comes to urgent employment. -
