Best Anti-virus and Anti-Adware/Spyware Program

I just uninstalled all the unnecessary programs from my Laptop, deleted all the unneccessary files, did a system clean up, hash check all my Bittorrent downloaded files for corruption, downloaded countless Anti-virus and Anti-Adware/Spyware to make sure my Laptop is "clean" then uninstalled them.
I did a Windows Update and lastly I Defragmented my Laptop. Its now as good as new. 
Can someone recommand the best free Anti-virus and Anti-Adware/Spyware Program?[/code] -

I usually read up on new software in www.download.com.
Sydoctor is good but very hard to crack.
Webroot spysweeper is good too but takes up a lot of resources. Use if you have a good comp that can afford the strain.
Counterspy and Microsoft spywarecleaner look the same to me...
Spybot Search and destroy, free program, free updates, real time protection, I like it a lot.
Lavasoft Adaware, great cleaner, but no real time protection unless you buy the full version. I'm too cheap to spend... I use it only for cleaning.
If you are an advanced user, try out bazooka... I found it to be confusing and rather troublesome to search for the appropriate steps to clean the infections manually.
There are more, but i haven't tried them yet... -
If you have real time protection, you will still be infected, but at least you can detect them as soon as they infect your comp. The biggest problems are the user... If your anti spyware program asks you permission to let a program install, and you always say yes, then might as well have no antispyware program... -

i read in CHIP mag that BitDefender is a good anti-virus to haf. Spyware Doctor is good i heard. So far i've been using free ones like Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-aware. its best to install 2 anti-spyware programs as nowadays spyware and adware can be immuned to certain programs, making them undetectable by some anti-spyware programs.
The onli 100% protection is not using the internet at all. the 99% protection is using yr common sense. especially when letting programs pass the firewall -

Best anti-virus, McAfee, Symantec.
Best anti-spyware, Spybot S-D, Lavasoft Ad-Aware, Hijack-This and Microsoft Antispyware. For Hijack-This, you need to know a lot about computers to use it. That's because if you delete the wrong thing, your system will be gone case. For Microsoft Antispyware, while it is good, it is pretty heavy on your system resources. And if you install unknown program, it will keep popping up and ask you whether you want to allow. Quite an irritating feature.
Recommend you another program: firewall. No firewall = leaving door open. -

it might not be a case of "the more the merrier"... 
anyway...using antivirus software is not a pre-empt method as new viruses gets created very fast and ur system might be one of the 1st few to be infected....ie...virus definitions have not been updated yet...
for me...I think it would be the next best option to isolate ur important files with the system...ie...backup ur files regularly if U only have 1 system...at least U can recover part of ur uncorrupted data should anything happen... -
