It's already killed or it won't end up in big bowls on so many tables.Originally posted by shade343:I think even at wedding dinners...I wont touch it...I dont support the killing of sharks...![]()
But you are indirectly supporting teh killing of sharks! And besides, sharkfins have no essential nutrition....Originally posted by ditzy:Of course! It's good stuff you know!![]()
If lesser people eat it, restaurants will stop offering it on their menu. When restaurants stop ordering sharkfins, wholesalers will stock less sharkfins. When wholesalers stop importing or buying, fishermans stops hunting them.Originally posted by ditzy:It's already killed or it won't end up in big bowls on so many tables. If you don't eat it, it gets thrown away, there are people starving out there mind you.

I see quite a lot of restaurants offering it leh....Originally posted by renorenal:Got demand, sure got supply one... they have been protecting the sharks for quite some time now, but there are still illegal killing and smuggling.
But I doubt nowadays the shark-fin soup in the wedding dinner table that we eat still has shark-fin lor, I think they removed that ingredient if I am not wrong. They put in more crab, and other replacements for the shark. Donno...

ANother good point why we shouldnt eat sharkfinsOriginally posted by Fatum:there shall be no shark's fin at my wedding ..... i don't support the killing of sharks either ... i've not touched shark's fin since i took up diving 8 years ago ....
there's a more practical reason why i won't touch shark's fin too ....
Sharks are top end, Apex predators, which means that all the accumulated toxins of the fishes they eat are stored on their bodies .... you know for a while shark's fin from thailand was banned because of too high a mecury content ? .... I wouldn't want to be ingesting heavy metals and toxins and risking potential birth defects for my future little Fatums for something which is essentially tasteless cartilage .......
think of that the next time you're staring at a bowl of shark's fin soup ...
