there's a more practical reason why i won't touch shark's fin too ....
Sharks are top end, Apex predators, which means that all the accumulated toxins of the fishes they eat are stored on their bodies .... you know for a while shark's fin from thailand was banned because of too high a mecury content ? .... I wouldn't want to be ingesting heavy metals and toxins and risking potential birth defects for my future little Fatums for something which is essentially tasteless cartilage .......
think of that the next time you're staring at a bowl of shark's fin soup ... -

Add 3 teapoonsful into a 200ml of hot water, same effect. Tastes just as good on its own, no, not the water.

oh well .... but seriously, think of what i've posted .... the flavour from shark's fin soup comes from all the ingredients they use .... not from the shark's fin itself .... if you don't believe me, try going to a good vegetarian resturant and ordering their mock shark's fin soup .... they taste exactly the same really .... that's all the "shark's fin" i eat now ...... -

Since 1997, after watching documentary on how sharks are discarded fin-less into the ocean by trawlers hunting sharksfins, I never touched a single bowl of it till today.
Just you imagine: Suppose there exist a higher-being, bigger, smarter than us humans, and they like to eat our arms and legs for soup. Just imagine yourself caught alive, and they cut off your arms and legs and throw on the roadside to die.
Like that? Like dying like this?? Then go ahead and eat sharksfins!!! -
It's the broth that taste nice, not the fins actually. For me, I won't ask, buy and look for it, but if it's served right in front of me, I will eat.

Shark fin no tastes..just cartilage only. Also no nutritional quality.
Wen i cook it, i soak in white wine bout 4-days to 'infuse' flavour into it. -
My sentiments is that if, they can farm sharks for their fins, and find other consumable use for the rest of the shark's body, then it's quite acceptable. Just like pigs, cows, and poultry.
But sharksfins are obtain indiscriminately, and heartlessly.
I'm not suggesting Vegetarian we should all become. It's how the industry go about acquiring what the masses likes to consume. -

For now, we breed and farm bullfrogs for consumption, but clobber and skin them alive for their flesh, and no one's complaining. -
