Just now saw the news...was about the poly forum 2005 at ngee ann poly...
some of the students commented that:
1)why poly students have to pay a higher bus fare compared to jc students even though we are all the same age and still studying...
2)some jc students are "yaya" when they see poly students just because it seems that jc students have a higher chance of going to university...
The minister at the forum,Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, had this to say about comment 1...
1)some people gets to pay lesser for the bus fare...therefore others will have to pay more...
why is it poly students have to pay more?
because our parents earn more?because quite alot of poly students work?or because jc students suppose to be the cream of the crop and they have to be spoon-fed?
and this long-going prejudice of only jc students get to go to university...has apparently made jc students a little bit proud...
wat u think?
I think the main reason is because government subsidize alot of our school fees, so they want to eat us back..but of cause cannot state this reason la if not too obvious liao..Originally posted by aRcTiC_sTaR:'cos Poly = Tertiery
JC = Kids
Therefore kids pay kids' fare. Tertiery students can hold a proper job with a Diploma, where else JC kids become big kids after graduating from JC.
even if they subsidize our school fees...the extra money that we pay oso doesn't go to the government mahz...why must we pay extra?Originally posted by stellazio:I think the main reason is because government subsidize alot of our school fees, so they want to eat us back..but of cause cannot state this reason la if not too obvious liao..![]()
goes to sbs..but is sbs a private company?think about tax and you can figure it out yourself..Originally posted by R3SsH|n:even if they subsidize our school fees...the extra money that we pay oso doesn't go to the government mahz...why must we pay extra?
its not a measly amount..it'll amount up to millions..Originally posted by R3SsH|n:so they trying to earn this measly amount?
well...the government sure work in a nice way don't they?
jc students...your textbooks won't have an answer for this...so don't bother...come express your thoughts...
wtf..even in poly also adult fare..Originally posted by Burgerking:I graduate from poly liao. Using adult fare.![]()

Tertiary fares are cheaper than adults fare.Originally posted by stellazio:wtf..even in poly also adult fare..![]()
poly and adult only difference is that poly can pay for concession fare...but wth...the concession itself already cost $52 for taking bus only...Originally posted by Burgerking:I graduate from poly liao. Using adult fare.![]()
its the simple fact that jc students doesn't support our view on this matter, don't support nvm but instead gives us stupid answers like, your complain soo much for what, your where home clothes can wake up late, wear slippers to school of course your are not real students la..Originally posted by Blueicez:comeon.. answer WHAT? why not go ask the govt instead..... its not as if JC students set such a regulation..... whats the aim of this thread? you wanna start another JC vs Poly war? How many JC students out of the whole JC population think that way? Or are you just generalising.... in fact I've never heard of such a thing before until you mentioned it.....Originally posted by stellazio:its the simple fact that jc students doesn't support our view on this matter, don't support nvm but instead gives us stupid answers like, your complain soo much for what, your where home clothes can wake up late, wear slippers to school of course your are not real students la..![]()
poly students too turn up as early as 8am...for example lets say this...i live in clementi but i wanna study nursing in nyp...my class start at 8am everyday...i have to wake up at 6.15am everyday just to take the train...den transfer to another bus...just to reach nyp...chances are...the fare will be a bomb...den why isn't it subsidised like jc students?Originally posted by papercut87:hmm.. to some poly students, maybe the increase in fare for poly students abit unfair.. but then again, jc students r in a sense treated more as 'school kids' (like sec sch).. whereas poly students get the privilege to be treated as 'young adults'.. the edu system b/w jc-s n polys is juz being different, nt biased.. jc students wear their uni.. turn up at 7.30am every weekday fer morning assembly.. hav our attendance taken everyday.. thats probably the reason y we still hold our sec sch concession passes... so we pay cheaper..
haha.. n yar.. i think the part about jc students lookin down totalli on poly students only applies to a minority. we do acknowledge the fact that there r certain courses offered by polytechnics that hav good future prospects but most of the time, we (well, at least most of my jc friends and i) dont look down n discriminate people who come from poly.. the main reason behind that is kinda simple- jc students fail to interact with poly students often. thats y there's this barrier b/w us.. leadin to several misconceptions..cheers..
