this is a sad topic, but unfortunately true.
i wonder what happened to their CPF? No CPF in the old days? Spent all their $$? Cost of living too high? medical expenses? Illiterate? Plagued by ill health?
yes, we may be educated, but if i lose my eyesight when i get old (being already 900 degrees per eye), lose my hearing, lose my health, get cancer etc, who knows, i may have to join that group of old people.......
i'm sure i can't take that kind of life....so i may decide to join those who jump onto MRT track.......that's why now at some MRT stations aboveground, there's a newly-erected sign "Cherish your life".....
digressing from the topic.....
anyway, perhaps someone suggest to the govt to build old folks' home at void deck? society can't ignore this problem for long..... in a decade or 2, there may be a whole group of old people camping at the void deck.....
let's join them....just to protest at the unfairness of life .... -
and also the COFFEE SHOP, shaking leg.

well actually CPF can last you long it depends on how you spend it some people just don't know how to spend money wisely.... even if the old are sick they also got medicsave to save their ass so i think it's a matter of how you spend....

this is a true statement:
one day, my oversea aunts came to visit me. They shopped along orchard road, suntec city, even bedok.
After that, they told me one thing that i never realized.
They told me how come there were not many old people in orchard road, suntec city.
Singapore is not a good place to old people. They said.
They think because not many people in singapore owe a car, therefore, old people normally stay at home or its nearby. (Generally speaking, old man normally have difficult to take bus because of their age and difficult to walk).
They also told me that they visited my relative in m'sia. As most of the malaysian owes a car and stay at landed property, old people can go around.
i will never want to be an old man who will stuck in singapore!!![/b] -
Don't think can stay in void deck.
U will get chased away like those staying in Changi beach. -
why life as old people in singapore sucks?
nowadays, many companies sack old employees.. and get younger employees to replace them because younger employees are cheaper... -
Talk about being an inclusive society... but many of our less well-off old folks are enduring this kind of lifestyle...

just go to the library and you see a llot of unemployed there. some are only in their mid or late forties.
