generally i dont like confrontations, though i dont make it a habit to avoid every single one.Originally posted by Kenashi:haven't b4 n i don't think i will ever be.
most ppl will back off when they r in the wrong n when they see how tough i am
u won't lose anything except that it make it easy for u to walk away from every confrontation n in the end, u just keep giving way to others n losing yr grounds. i don't think u want that, do u?

but as far as this is concerned i try not to get involved. afterall walking away doesnt hurt.
sometimes the most harmless thing in life can spiral way out of control.
There was once where I had 2nd hand smoke blowing at me while i was eating my meal at a hawker centre. I usually dun like to smell cigarette smoke while eating. After meal is fine.Originally posted by dragg:frankly i dont understand why people keep complaining about 2nd hand smoke.
i am not a smoker too. but how much 2nd hand smoke do you take in in a day?
walk away from the smoker if you cant stand the smoke.
thats all.
Do you mean fight as in physically?Originally posted by Kenashi:i have a friend who don't like confrontation n ppl keep taking advantage of him, in the end, i always have to fight for him otherwise he will just take it in silent.
a lot of things doesn't hurt to walk away, it just when do u really know that it hurts? maybe it will be too late by the time u realised it.
yes sometime a person might jsut lose it n start a fight with me over a trival matter, then god bless him![]()

i agree that smoking should be banned in hawker centres. it is not fair for others to 'go somewhere to eat' just so the smoker can enjoy his puff. i fully agree with bans extending to situations where non smokers does not have the luxury of walking away without inconveniencing themselves. this excludes pubs and discos.Originally posted by SilverPal:There was once where I had 2nd hand smoke blowing at me while i was eating my meal at a hawker centre. To cut a long story short, i moved 3 times trying to consume my food in a smoke free manner.
Smokers neither see nor care about the inconvenience they impose on non smokers.
It is childish to say things like "I'm smoking my own cigs minding my own business, dunno y all the non smokers keep imposing their morality on me". Truth is you ARE imposing on non smokers everytime you choose to light up in crowded areas.
Luckily, my smoker friends have to habit of going to another place to smoke and return once they are done.
Altho i'm indifferent about the ban, I do hope that eating places can be as smoke free as possible.
As for the zoo story, I applaud the writer for his patience. I would probably have lost my temper and gotten into trouble...
no, fight for his rights, just end up in an argument with those trying to pick on him.Originally posted by SilverPal:Do you mean fight as in physically?
how about the exhaust from vehicles?Originally posted by ahtansh:All this smoking ban is for those unconsiderate smokers. Knowing that smoking is harmful still blow at others.
Please don't spread the 2nd hand smoke.
We cherish our life.
Unless all smokers agree to wear special filters on their mouth to lower the pollution caused, otherwise its an "apples and oranges" comparison.Originally posted by dragg:how about the exhaust from vehicles?
should all vehicles been banned too?
how about pork?Originally posted by SilverPal:Unless all smokers agree to wear special filters on their mouth to lower the pollution caused, otherwise its an "apples and oranges" comparison.
furthermore, the benefits of transportation far outweighs the costs and thus the pollution is put up with, even by non commuters (whatever that means).
As for smoking, what are the benefits to the person and society?
Look good
kills germs
repels mosquito
do the benefits outweigh the costs?
But isn't your arguments in such cases weaker since you are not a direct victim of being picked on?Originally posted by Kenashi:no, fight for his rights, just end up in an argument with those trying to pick on him.
I hate ppl who take advantage of others.
You got me there, I've no idea...Originally posted by dragg:how about pork?
Actually, the ban probably was a result of a few "bad apples" spoiling the "market" for all smokers.Originally posted by dragg:i agree that smoking should be banned in hawker centres. it is not fair for others to 'go somewhere to eat' just so the smoker can enjoy his puff. i fully agree with bans extending to situations where non smokers does not have the luxury of walking away without inconveniencing themselves. this excludes pubs and discos.
as for the zoo case. one cant really say if the smoker is in the wrong. unless the shed is so small that others cannot avoid the smoke it is only 'right' that the guy have the courtesy of not smoking.
otherwise it is also only 'right' that non smokers cut the smokers some slack.
i am just pulling your leg on the pork question.Originally posted by SilverPal:You got me there, I've no idea...
You hit the nail on the head! Personally, I'm more incensed about being deprived off the enjoyment of my food and also getting choked when 2nd hand smoke wafts into my face.Originally posted by dragg:i am just pulling your leg on the pork question.
actually i dont believe that smoking alone causes cancer. there are many more contributing factors. take dengxiaoping for example.
do people dislike smokers because the 2nd hand smoke affects their health? i feel it is more of the discomfort than the ill effects that make non smoker so negative about smoking.
They can Ban Chewing Gum , the question is Why still allow smoking ?Originally posted by Manager433:Ban Ban Ban. Singapore must be the first country in Asia to fully ban smoking.![]()
I don't care, if they want to bully my buddy, they have to go through meOriginally posted by SilverPal:But isn't your arguments in such cases weaker since you are not a direct victim of being picked on?
I've tried standing up for others and there are times when reasoning with them, I feel that the arguments would be more effective and hold more weight if the person himself was the one bringing it up and i was supporting his stand.
Can I be your buddy? I always get bullied...Originally posted by Kenashi:I don't care, if they want to bully my buddy, they have to go through me![]()
