Anyway, I noticed that more and more ppl are starting to use programs that were traditionally "off the beaten path". Many users i know now support the open source movement too. For example, ppl are not longer at the mercy of netscape and explorer for their browsing needs but turn to different brands of browsers. Openoffice.org is also becoming very popular.
Maybe Shinta can try out unix or linux to see if these os suit you better than microsoft?

That tends to happen when a software gets too popular. Too many viruses and worms were targetted at outlook express and ppl stopped using it. While TRUE that users are often the weakest link in a system's security, & since this is the norm, I say the best software in keeping spyware and adware at bay, is still also the user.
By this, I meant that users, should read up more about the variable identities of spyware and adware (their many forms of seemingly legit names), and it's symptomatic interactions with your browser. If your Firewall prompts or warns you of something you can't understand, it is usually best to click on the Firewall's 'recommended' action, as in the case of Norton Internet Security 2005 (Spyware Edition). And it is prudent to read up on what the message means. Self-education, not blind faith.
Knowing how spyware and adware behaves, does go a long ways in keeping your system, trouble free.
Browser-jacking, or Browser-hijacking is no longer an issue with NIS2005 (Spyware Edition). The moment NIS2005 detects that your Homepage has been re-directed or changed in any way, it will notify you by re-diverting the attack to Symantec's website, informing you that your Homepage was changed, and that you can set your Homepage back again by going to Internet Options.
I go anywhere I very well please on the Internet, and have never been utterly confounded by any attacks, because I know what all those popups and prompts are; - fakes, enticers, and multi-links that leads to spyware, adware, and trojans. Some links when clicked, changes your Internet Explorer's homepage settings, and if you're using a dial-up connection, your dial-up settings can also be changed to dial-up a porno server.
READING, is important. Reckless downloading and surfing, only brings trouble. -

M$ AntiSpyware = piece of crap.
1) No, Microsoft didn't make it ok! They simply bought over a company and renamed the product.
2) They detect my Messenger Plus as adware. The Messenger Plus creator took action against M$, so M$ lan lan change the definitions.
3) They cannot detect some spyware that my 5 other AntiSpywares detected. -
