Windows Vista OS

Just tried it on another comp. It requires a powerful graphics display card.
Went back to using the old OS after trying. -

i change my XP to classic interface
im nostalgic.......i still like the win95 look

yawnz.... basically its just 'nicer' and more demanding graphics for our graphic cards. Forever the same, no original ideas...

Well it is the same for other electrical appliances like say HP. Change a bit here and there then give a new model and market it out to earn money. Unless the core or base is changed drastically, it is like add-on but bandied around like a brand new OS.
M$ need to feed thousands of programmer everyday leh if no new OS how to earn money?

If u juz wan the nicer look of windows longhorn, try windowsblinds and use the longhorn build 5203.

well it can be downloaded but there's another problem.....the windowblinds shareware cannot open it...i click open it..it just highlight another skin...who can help?

i like MSDOS look, Windows look so lousy -
open the windowsblinds config.
select the "install skin from disk"
choose the file u wan (in this example : C:\...\Longhorn5203WBv14)
then click apply.
think this should do it. -
ok....now using the Vista skin...will use for few days and then decide if its better....

well... its up to u whether u wan to us the skin or not. Note that Windowsblinds
uses 500k+ of ur ram and up to 50Mb in page file, so it boils down to whether u
wan a nicer look or a slightly faster comp. -
Im using the Vista's skin but there's a problem with the icon that i cant tolerate anymore...u see the area surrounding the icon's name is blue which stand out against the nice greeny wallpaper while normal icon name's surrounding area is the wallpaper....the picture below show my icon and the normal ppl's icon

go to control panel > system > advanced > performance settings > use drop shadows for your desktop icons.
Tick this. Or u can tick the best appearance setting if u want the best look (uses more ram) -
Visual styles will lag, WindowBlind's talk about not using more RAM is that it does not use more RAM than default Windows skinning and not that it does not use any memory for skinning.
RAM can be precious, poor people like me have only 512MB so we must make good use of it.
Not using themes = 1 less service to run, more than 1 DLL less to process.
Not using themes also give you an edge over other online gamers as probably they will lag if they see 20 CS1.6 smoke grenades but you won't, so you can free-kill them. -
ya lor... 512MB ram is so little... wish i had 1Gb for ram. But i not playing intense online games so its ok for me, i guess?

heh heh...my computer's not really the sort for intense gaming...It have 256MB of RAM..and somemore abt 4 years old plus..thats why i buy those easier requirement games like warcraft than say,C&C Generals which was very slow when i played it......then if im right if there's not enough ram the computer would create temp ram files on the disk right?If so why need so much ram when u can assign more memory on the disk to be used as temp?Originally posted by abao:ya lor... 512MB ram is so little... wish i had 1Gb for ram. Hard disk is SLOWER than RAM. RAM is directly connected to the Northbridge which the CPU is connected to, but hard disk need more access time. (some older motherboards have the hard disks connected to Southbridge instead, so it goes from Northbridge to Southbridge then to the hard disk -- which is SLOW.)
RAM also have many different types, RDRAM, SDRAM, DDR-SDRAM, DDR-RAM, DDR2 etc. They are much faster than the Windows' Virtual RAM.
RAM also uses dedicated memory chips.
Therefore the higher amount of RAM, the faster your com. -
