The term lady could be used in various ways; most are according to the content and mood of text.
If the content is a invitation to a function. Then Lady is a formal and respectable greeting.
If the context is stern and firm. say father is upset with his mischevious daughter, he says 'Listen here Lady.'

it's based on one's free will but some people behaves as if we owe them the seat just becos they're handicapped/pregnant/old.
in the past, I've given up seats to countless ungrateful handicaps/pregnant women/elders who never even say ''thank you'', just show me their long bitter face as if I owe them one....................

Have you seen the new law? In MRT station if you stand beyond the yellow line before the train completely stop, you get fined $500.
(Read the sign that is mounted on the tracks, usually says "Give way to alighting passengers". It is replaced with new laws)
If you go down to MRT tracks, fine $5000 also.

moreover, he said students shudnt be blamed str8away.
anw, the pregnant lady took 95 right? who would take 95 towards buona vista frm NUH?? it's confirmed pack with undergraduates and i wud rather take the free shuttle service, confirm get seats one.
wonder whether the pregnant lady streetsmart or not...
