Well and also i think its a choice whether to offer the seat to needy pple. Some pple dun feel good when they dun offer the seat... whereas some feel nothing seeing someone needy standing on the bus loh.... -
Basically the idea of students represents the present generation/future generation of Singaporean.
So commenting on the students will have a indirect impact on the youths of our generation.
That's why people are reacting to it.

i remember when i was a school kid, i had a super big and heavy bag. frequently holding on to many books on the hands which can no longer fit into my bag. and to top it off, i had big cardboard project roll in to pole form which is half as tall as me...
i dont see anyone giving their seat to me... i dont even have hands to hold on to the bars... and those adults... just sit there pretend not to see me... -

If you cannot even afford a taxi, then how can you even be prepared to afford raising up a baby
so if the baby is going to come out soon, you take a bus and expect the driver to put on a siren and speed to the hospital for you?
Secondly, even if there are ADULTS seating amongst the youth in the crowd, adults that can range from 30-50 years old.How come when they do not give their seats, the youth always get bashed verbally first?There are definately adults sitting amongst the students, so what?Students have social obligations which adults receive immunity from?
just because others dont do so doesnt mean you cant. it is your right and duty as a singaporean citizen to give up your seat to the more needy. -

I gave my seat up to an old lady on the mrt today.. she smiled and sat on the seat... 1 minute later she stood up and alighted -
Sometimes really, this old folks are not obligated to go any place.But they just cant sit down for a while sometimes and decide to take a bus to Orchard Road or something.Then they complain there are no seats.

a personal advice from me. if u dun wanna be catch in this sorta awkward situation, just go to the second storey or simply stand thru-out the journey.

Those who see anothers' need and give their seats, well good then.
Those who need a seat badly, should ask. No harm in asking. Don't want to ask, then stand. It is not good to quitely seeth and then write a letter to the newspapers to complain.
I have seen all sorts of people not giving their seat to a very obviously pregnant woman. Men, boys women, girls, big sized men, old men, beautiful women, lau amahs. Even one in a nun's habit. You name it, they've done it.
Even I myself, well she was about 10 feet away and I ignored her. If she had ask me, I would certainly not refuse.
I have also given up my seat to pregnant women, and old people. I have also seen many others do such a thing.
We are in a small place.
Being crowded in makes us edgy.
Those countries that we often quote as having good etiquette are often spacious, and its people less harried. But in crowded cities they are just as uncivil as us.
Some won't give up their seat, some will.
Has been so, and will always be so. -
