There is a town served by two hospitals. The smaller hospital has 15 babies born each day. The bigger hospital has 45 babies born each day.
The proportion of baby boys is around 50% of all the born babies in the town. In each of the hospital, there might be days when the percentage of baby boys is less or more than 50%.
At the end of the year, which hospital will see greater number of days when the percentage of boys are 60% or more?
A. The big hospital
B. The small hospital
C. Neither. It's about the same (deviations are 5% or less).
Please answer this question and give ur reasoning. -

Ok... I am deducing that the probability of baby boys in big hospital is higher not because of it size... but instead on a rational approach on the number 45 where probability is higher than 15. -

Of course C la.. the number of days where % of baby boys is greater is independant on hospital size.. but the bigger hospital will have bigger number of boys than the smaller one -

for 50% boys...
small hospital... 7.5 out of 15 boys...
big hospital... 22.5 out of 45 boys...
for 60% boys...
small hospital... 9 out of 15 need to be boys...
big hospital... 27 out of 45...
given average is 50% Boy n Girl... let average boy = X
so... on a single day... IF...
small hospital got X+1.5=>60%
big hospital got X+4.5=>60%

normal circumstance is 50% each gender with deviation...

imagine big hospital split into 3 department...
small hospital = 15
big 1 = 15
big 2 = 15
big 3 = 15

Yes. When convert to percentage, B is easier to achieve. But based solely on the numbers itself, (perhape just my feels) chances of baby boys born in the number 45 is higher than 15.
