I have American accent. I can't help it since I am already in the States for 3 years. Are you going to kill me?
Of course I haven't forgotten Singlish yet. Whenever I go to Singapore, I would still use Singlish when I talk to uncles at hawker centres and kids. However in shopping centres and other events or ball, I would use American accent. After all, I am more fluent in American accent.
The thing here is adaptability and flexibility. You may know many different accents but if you apply it at the wrong place and at the wrong social circle then you are a failure. I have seen SGP chicks talking back to me in American accent when I spoke to them in Singlish. I mean dude, I am already being considerate here by conforming to her language yet she still tried to force herself in those fake accents (thinking that it will attract me) which she failed miserably. -
