i think this IS the solution .... think of ALL of them putting up their hands .... and the other two sitting down ....Originally posted by applesweetgirl:hey...i think this MIGHT be the solution too............clever clever! but i do not know for sure the answer yet. will only know next tuesday. i will update then...^^
yes yes...Originally posted by Fatum:no, no, read it again, ... there are only combos possible, .... all 3 reds, or 1 is green, the thing is all don't know whether the one on his/her own head is green or not ... so ... if you see the other two hesitating, coupled with the fact that all are putting up their hands ... the ony conclusion is that yours must be red .... cos you see all including yourself putting up your hands ...![]()
hao! jia you jia you jia you!Originally posted by dragg:sorry i try again. i made a mistake earlier.
didnt notice the clause all the hats are in red.
The point is, since either person sees the other 2 have red hats on, naturally he would think he is the one wearing the green hat. Since they were told that there are green and red hats.Originally posted by Fatum:okay, here's my solution, (I think ..... )
for all three to put up their hands .... there are only two possible combinations, all 3 are red ... or there are 2 reds and 1 green .....
thus, if all three of them are thinking people ... and see both the others and themselves putting up their hands, they'll stay put for a while because of the possiblity that their own is green .....
But ... if one chap sees the others staying put .... and sees both reds on the heads of the other two .... he'll realise that the only reason they are staying put is because both of them are seeing reds too ....
so the first chap who realises this can just walk out ...... for he can only be wearing a red hat then ....
and so can the other two for that matter ..... \
i think this might be a solution ...![]()

hi! this is an IQ question. my teacher asked it today and she asked us to think about it. i'm very fed up coz i have been thinking for 2h and i'm sure i have heard this question before...argh! so please help, yes? thanks! ^^
A, B and C are in a room. they are each blindfolded and a hat is placed on each of them. they are told that there are red and green hats. after the hat is placed on their heads, they are unblindfolded.
they are asked to put up their hands if they see a red hat, and leave the room if they know what's their own hat colour.
it happens that all 3 are wearing red hats. naturally, everyone put up their hands.
but C, being a more thinking person, also derived his hat colour and thus, walked out of the room.
the question is, how did C know his hat colour?
ok. so that was the question.
please do not anyhow add in that the room got mirror or window or what.
also, this is an IQ QUESTION, NOT A TRICK QUESTION. so don't say things like C went to ask A and B what is his hat colour.
happy solving! ^^
Fatum already posted the correct answer.Originally posted by dragg:i will be amazed if there is really a logical answer.
in the question it is indicated that all wear red hats.Originally posted by DriftingGuy:Fatum already posted the correct answer.
The only scenarios for all three to raise hands are:
1) 2 red 1 green, everyone will see at LEAST one red hat
2) all three red hats
For scenario 1:
a) If I wear a green hat, someone will leave. Since, they deduce that either one of them two must be a red hat in order for all three hands to raise up.
b) If someone else wear green, but me and another guy wears red.. then i will immediately know that i am red hat in order for all three hands to raise up.
But neither me nor that someone else can immediately know and leave. Therefore from the hesitation, I can deduce that scenario 1 is impossible and scenario 2 is the answer: we all wearing red hats.
Guy C is smart, but if Guy B also can leave after Guy C then he is a genius. Since Guy B must also deduce what Guy C is thinking!!!
Yes they all wear red hats.. but Guy C does not know thatOriginally posted by dragg:in the question it is indicated that all wear red hats.
as such there is no logical answer.
Bingo!Originally posted by lost.sheep:C being the smarter of the 3
decides that since there was no rule stating that one cannot takes off one's hat to look
decides to do so
and thus, he does precisely that and walks out of the room
read applesweetgirl's first post.. theres no smart answer.. like that i can do the following "smart" things:Originally posted by macjoe:Bingo!
Why guess when there's no rule that you cannot take it off and look at it?
All 3 saw "red" and "green" hats (as ther could be more than 3 hats and need not be on their heads) and so raised their hands.
All 3 could have took their hats off and look at the color and walk out together.
Or A and B probably told each other their hat color to each other.
However, there's the possibility A AND B are color-blind (seeing green as red).
C could just take his/her hat off and look at the color or, being not color-blind, sees greens on A and B and "derives" his color must be red.![]()
ya thats the summarized answerOriginally posted by hisoka:because the other 2 didn't walk out so his must be red also because if his is green then on of the others could have got an answer

er.. no. She already say that it happens so that all are wearing red hats.Originally posted by JennTS:3 people, 3 hats.
the hats are either red or green.
so obviously if the other 2 are red, C's hat is green.
damit...lol...sorry.Originally posted by DriftingGuy:er.. no. She already say that it happens so that all are wearing red hats.
Guy C can see that 2 are wearing red hats with his eyes. He can also see that all raise hands. But he only dunno what he is wearing.
BTW He can wear green hat and all will still raise hands
thats why there is no logical answer.Originally posted by DriftingGuy:er.. no. She already say that it happens so that all are wearing red hats.

A can see B and C.Originally posted by macjoe:A and B didn't walk out of the room coz they don't know their own color (even if they took it off and look at it). Likely to be green hats.
C could see the real color on A and B and figures his/her hat is red. Of course, there's nothing to stop C from taking it off to confirm his/her hat color.![]()
