Pakistan Earthquake: Why are we asked to donate?

  Not being heartless or anything like that.
  
  It's just that I don't understand why a country which can spend money building nuclear bombs cannot afford to buy blankets/food for its quake victims. Surely they have some savings a.k.a. foreign reserves?

  Donating is fine but the problem lies in the various hidden traps laid by donor and recipient reps. Take getting credit for instance. Who really gets it?
  
  The donor/s or the representative/s and who's the representative and in whose name? A businessman on behalf of his organisation, a rep on behalf of the government or just a charitable singaporean on behalf of singaporeans.
  
  In many cases, some donations are being siphoned off under the pretext of covering costs (by both donor and recipient reps).
  
  I'm afraid there are many doing charity to get recognition and credit at the expense of donors.
  
  Donate but do it with kindness and prudence, not foolishness, ie caveat emptor.

  Every countries have $$$ to build on their defence but no $$$ to help their ppl...china...rich strong in weapons, still have so many prostitute in singapore.
  
  I tink the onli real poor countries are the africans....we shld help them, not those countries that have $$$ to launch rockets and build nuclears but no $$$ to help their own ppl

  The global mentality is something like this:
  
  You need help, we will help you. Therefore, when we need help, you better help us.
  
  It remains to be seen though whether anyone will help Singapore when Singapore is in need of help.
