SCDF 'Red Rhino' collides with taxi, 1 killed

Three Civil Defence officers on their way to put out a fire met with an accident on Monday.
Their vehicle - a 'Red Rhino'- collided with a taxi along Choa Chu Kang Drive, killing a female passenger.
Officers said this was the first fatal accident involving the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
The collision wrecked one of the taxi's doors and killed a Malay passenger in her fifties.
Her companions, a woman in her thirties and a two-year-old girl, were taken to the National University Hospital.
Mr Alex Wong, an eyewitness, said one of the taxi passengers was trapped in the vehicle and was rescued by the Civil Defence personnel.
The taxi driver sustained only cuts and bruises.
The three Civil Defence officers on board the "Red Rhino" were unhurt.
The taxi driver said he had picked up the female passengers from Lot 1 Shopping Centre and were heading to Taman Jurong when the accident occurred.
The SCDF said the collision occurred when the 'Red Rhino', which had its siren and flashing lights on, was heading to Sungei Kadut to put out a factory fire.
Police are now investigating the cause of the accident. - CNA -

If the Red Rhino is already sounding it's alarm, the taxi driver must also take note and not just ignore it's presence. The driver might ignore it and just drive through the Red Rhino paths !

By right, all motorists have to give way to emergency vehicles if their siren is on and their lights flashing.

guys.. don't quickly push the blame to the taxi driver.. as long as investigations are ongoing, our fingers shudnt be fast and pinpoint who should take the blame. the taxi driver is equally devastated by what has happened. when offered to be taken by ambulance to hospital, he refused and just sat on the kerb and looked at the accident site...

the Rhino's driver could be at fault, you never know.

Knowing how these Taxi drivers drive, I would rather believe that the Taxi driver is at fault.
