Pure Subjects VS Combined Subjects

I don't understand why some schools only allow the best of the best students to take pure subjects.
A teacher told me that a combined subject is 70 % of a pure subject. If that is so, a Combined Subject consists of 2 * 70 % = 140 % while a pure subject is a whole which is 100 %
Isn't studying Combined Subject a waste of time? When you can gets the the marks easiler from studying 1 subject?
Not only that. In my old sch, the 1st class takes:
English
Maths
Mother Tongue
Biology
Chemistry
Physics
A Maths
Combined Humanites
Total number of subjects, counting Combined as 2 subjects = 9
While my class takes:
English
Maths
Mother Tongue
Combined Science
Combined Humanties
A Maths
Accounting
Total number of subjects, counting Combined as 2 subjects = 9
Isn't this unfair? They study 9 subjects as 8 countable subjects and we study 9 subjects as 7 coutable subjects.
So means they got more chances of scoring higher? Why are people still taking combined subjects? Waste time and not worth it... -
Actually I agree with you, should allow everyone to have equal opportunities but that is how the system works.

pure science are for those who wanna proceed on to jc to take A lvls. w/o pure science, u honestly cannot handle the sciences at A lvl. i have a friend who didnt take pure sci and add maths for O lvls. now, she is repeating year 1. if u take combined sci and wanna proceed on to jc, there are two barriers u have to overcome.
1. the O lvl to A lvl barrier.
2. the combined to pure barrier.
in sec sch, they allow some classes to take combined science coz' dis grp are those that have decided to go to a poly after O lvls.
so, if you're in sec 2 and want to go to a JC Science faculty, do well for the year-end exams in sec 2 and get into the best class. -

pure science got more chapters to study la,and the paper is much harder as compared to a combi science paper..

combined bio is crap lah... only difference is they dun need to know pregnancy and the stages of giving birth. and details for kidney. might as well take pure bio...

Combined is simpler then Pure..
Pure is the so call ' Combined Science syllabus' In a lvls. haha
I realeas that wat I learn one, the sub science never learn.. for some topics*
Like.. very weird like that.. cos I think it's essential for Sub science to know too -

I took Pure Humanities and Pure Sciences last time..the syllabus was so much more comprehensive.
Believe me..what you guys are doing now is so much less. -

i took 3ple pure sci in upper sec hor. for A2, A2, B3 for bio.
den go jc take 2 sciences only.
yeah, combined science damn easy. read2 can get A1.
my friend who repeated got A1 for comb sci in O lvls. den come, JC, cannot tahan, repeat.
it's very different lah.. very in-depth. -

My sister used to take triple sciences in secondary school.
Now? She is like everyone, struggling a little at uni.
