Laptop or Desktop? Brand?

Basically just wan to check out which is a better choice, laptop or a desktop? Currently I own a desktop but its features had lack behind since it is rather old, about 6 yrs? pentium 3. I doubt the price of upgrading it since my monitor is already spoiled and i am afraid of paying the same price for a complete new one.
Laptop is good for its mobility but then I had seen the price of serveral other advertisment such as dell, acer, hp, their laptop pricing is rather higher than that of desktop even thought they do not provide the same features such as GHz, RAM...
Lastly i wish to know which brand will be a better choice if you were to buy them? It will be better if you can show me some advertisment and other pricing and features. Thank you. -

For notebooks, the best are from IBM, but it is quite costly, and the specifications are not as good as the other brands. The next best one is Toshiba. It has some features which are almost the same as IBM.
For desktops, DIY is the best. -

if u wan windows as os, get IBM.
if not, get Apple laptop.

ah I read the question again and I think everyone has misread his question

well, depends on what you want to do with it? Laptop will be suitable if you want to bring it around with you, if you are someone who are outside your house a lot and if you will be doing a lot of your computer work outside a room. -
Get Linux. Change everything to open source. Don't need to worry about viruses. And the best thing is that it is free, unless you go and order, of which nobody asks you to.

Howvever I was wondering if other brand like HP will be able to provide the same spec for a lower price since i have been using HP all along.

hp compaq is more ex than acer in general.......
note tt it's all abt business still at IT fairs......
though the motto is usually "bo li duo xiao", the manufacturers are not stupid to do losing business

ok specs average price, but if u need to choose the options to upgrade this and upgrade tt.....still have to spend more $$
there are deals tt u can look out for, but it will not be direct price slash....it will be in the form of free ram upgrade, free printer.......vouchers redeemable for accessories like extra batt, power adapter....... -

before talking about brands, choose btw laptop or desktop first.
For laptop, it's for those who need to carry it around. Like if u are going to other countries for studies or work in the next one or two yrs, it's better to buy a laptop so that u can bring it there to use. Or maybe u need to carry ur laptop when u work. It's expensive for it's compact in size, and easier to carry around.
For desktop, it's cheaper. And more options to choose if u go DIY. And it is more upgradable in the near future. U can choose watever brand u need for each hardware in ur tower. U can add new hardware anytime too. For the same configuration of a laptop and desktop, the desktop is sure cheaper. -
