this so that all your home pc is connected to the input ports and only 1 output port is cabled to the house telephone roxette. thus all i/o signals shall be controlled (like traffic control and directing) at the hardware and distributed to various pc stations in your home 9if any more than 1).
i think you are using a modem with one ethernet port and 1 usb port thinking that it can serve multpiple log ins but pls read your user manual - the answer may be no. still i hope u can provide details of your pc and modem and internet subscription plan details and hardware configurations.
btw if u using one internet account and try to log in with multiple pcs, beware if yr seervice provider catch u doing that may be fined or sued! (i.e use one pc with one modem connected to a telephone roxette on the wall and log in to internet, use another pc in another room connected to a modem and to internet with the same log in through a seaparate telephone roxette)
