this happened just abt 30mins ago at McDonald's at Tampines East CC. i was waiting for my counter cashier to prepare my meal and i overheard this PRC couple from the counter beside me...
PRC guy : One McSpicy Double meal.
Cashier : Upsize?
PRC Guy : Spicy please.
Cashier :
Would you like to upsize your meal?
PRC Guy : No.
-Cashier goes to take his food-
Upsize? Spicy please?? i wonder what he was thinking. -

well .... i don't have much affection for many of them .... but don't be so hard on them lah .....
bear in mind that it's very difficult for some of them to communicate in a brand new language that they may have just picked up a few short years ago ....
used to get very PO trying to grasp what they were saying in English ... but then again ... people are probably laughing at Singaporeans studying in say, france or germay speaking their lingo too .... -

ONE freaking language. supposedly. CHINESE. period. liek say the americans speak only english. they dont take chinese. Expect a china chinese to speak english is not a must, it is thier option to learn english, so do not discriminate them... u can drop out of english class when ur sec 1 in china.
whereas in singapore we have 2 languages that we MUST take. english and mother tongue. so if anyone here speaks only 1 language it's a shame... what's more china chinese have much more mastery over their language than most of us here so do not brag ur english to them... i'd like u to go america of uk you get thrashed when u cant spell dimethanetrichlorofide properly... -

One is English, another is Hindi and the last one is that particular state language. On top of that when I was there I was learning Sanskrit and French too. =)

now.. everyone here.. how often do you interact wiv PRCs in ur life?
i've been with them since 2002. it's not something simple like understanding them and all...
for one thing, u can be the one to understand them. but for them to understand u? honestly speaking, they wouldn't even care abt u.
SG is just a stepping stone to them. after they're done with their sponsored education(which is what you paid as taxes) here, they'll leave. SG government hoping after they study, they'll contribute to our economy? not so simple.
