  try settin timer.... air con to go off around 3 am...
  
  it's actually cold around that time... and the past 1 mth plus... we slept with fan...
  
  not sure how much the utilities are...
  
  but that's what we did with the air con.

  If we look at the bills correctly on certain months it is estimated reading for water and electricity and gas etc. The SP guys can't be reading the meter every month for every HDB household rite? It will work them to death !
  
  So usually those estimated readings for the month will be moderated the next month when actual reading is taken. That is I found out after 1 yr and observing the pattern usage on my bill. So to determine more accurately is to take the average over 3 months bill which I presume within that 3 month a meter reading is taken.
  
  For me, 2 person water,electricity,gas is abt $60 - $70. The conservancy charge is $60.50 every month fixed.
  
  A side note: toilet bowl for urine and shitting is termed as water fitting and cost $3 each per month regardless if you got use. So ppl with 2 toilets at home please alternate to shit and urine on both of them

  I should think so. But what I am saying the water fitting for that 2 toilet bowls is chargeable regardless you got use or not. So rather than stick to 1 toilet to shIt and urine please alternate.

  I really wonder why its so expensive. I've ever tried living w/o switching on the Aircon at all, but its stil the same. Something muz be wrong.....
  Call for check u think? Arhh... i've already done the checking + pay for an extra meter to check it for few days. But they say its "Normal".

  We used to live in a terrace as well and it was only 300+ a month with air-con and all. My dad was complaining that living in a 5 room flat and a terrace has no impact on utility bills. In fact he said living in the terrace was cheaper because there is no conservacy fees to pay.

  rmbr when my hse has no one for 2 months...the utitily bills still at $30+.
  think oni fridge is on the rest all off.
  when there is oni 1 pax at home the bill will still ard $50+ (no air-cond on)
  
  when i call n check with PUB n ask them to make a check on the meter...
  from then the bills are quite stable. even the so-called estimated reading.
  
  there is one thing quite sure is when ur bill hit high...chances of going down is very rare.

  nope. In fact, water bills is like only the max... $70? when i had a few days of BBQ and ppl living in my hse for weeks?
  
  many yrs ago, my electricity bills is like 400-500/mth. Now is like 200 more!
  And frankly, the amt of eletricity we used is lesser than before!
  We do not waste so much electricity like before as we don't do much activities at home now. Last time was young and air-con is like 24hr on. But now, its different! We understand the situation and tried to control, but it seems like the "flow" is getting bigger and bigger

  Woah man your bill is like super high. I live in a 4 peopled 5 room flat and my monthly average is about $290. The bulk of my bill comes from electricity and I tried not switching on my air conditioner off for a whole month also but it didn't seem to make much difference..at most $30..
  
  The thing is I think I know where the power drain is coming from, I have 3 wine coolers and two fridges, plus my water heater is those boiler one, not those instant ones..so have to leave it on for like 10-15 minutes before showering..
  
  Maybe you can check if your electrical appliances are draining?
  
  By the way does anyone know if it drains a lot of power when you let's say, leave a fan off, but the plug in and socket turned on?

  I've already checked everything. I dun hav so many extra fridge at hm and even if so, why is my electrical bills $200 lower last time?

  Mine 5 room , average $160 , got three aircons , but never used .
  
  KNN , the electricity is about $50 , water also about there , gas the worst , for nothing about $30 , plus all those s.h.i.t +++ , garbage la , water tax la , elecrticity tax la , bill tax la ....... come up about $160 .
  
  I dislike the way they charge , got come and check meter , cheaper , when they estimate , more expensive .

  thats the problem. out of my average 55 per month, 75% of the bill is due to electricity. knn they keep increasing the tariffs.
  
  and frankly i dont understand the purpose of some of the other things i am paying.

  My water bill is around $200+- got 4 toilets, 2 fridges, aircon on every night.
  To save $$$
  1) get the PUB man to come & fix water saving device in yr taps & help adjust flushing system in toilet. It is a free service.
  2) Switch off heater after use & don't leave computer on the whole day.
  3) Install energy saving lights
  4) Collect rain water to water your plants & wash car porch/backyard etc.
  5) Don't load your fridge with too much unnecessary stuff cos will use more energy
  6) Switch off aircon in the early morn. Use fan instead.
