Computer Problem - Help and Advice Needed Urgently!

  Hi all,
  
  Just wondering if anyone can help.
  
  I was simply doing a full disk scan for virus, having my Norton Antivirus running, close the notebook and leave it to scan...
  
  However, a few hours later.. when I try to look at how it is, the screen was blank. And when I reset it, it cannot boot up.
  
  This message appeared:
  
  Intel(R) Boot Agent Version 4.0.19
  Copyright (C) 1997-2001, Intel Corporation
  PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
  PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
  Operating System not found
  
  Checked every cable that was connected, seems alright.. Whenever I try to press "Enter" again, the same message would appear, refusing to boot up.
  
  Any advice, anyone? Thanks in advance.

  BIOS failure?Can you enter your BIOS?

  its notebook rite?
  
  maybe HDD connector come loose, remember if ur still under warranty opening ur HDD enclosure urself will void the warranty.

  Reset your Cmos and save
  
  see what happened..
  
  Enter Dos mode to check yr hard disk and cdrw.. still there ?
  
  could be is a hardware failure..
  
  Isolated it..
  
  usually it's the ram... pull out one of yr ram, if in two piece set. then cannot rotate the other.
  
  then reboot
  
  If One pcs.. removed your graphic card.
  
  then reboot.
  
  If doesn't then it's fatal system crashed.. Reset Cmos (hardware), format ( make sure use NTFS format) and re-install windows.

  I know posts in sgForums can occur really fast, but my goodness.. I didn't know you guys can respond so quickly to help.. I am really impressed.
  
  You know what? I shut my notebook down and left it for a while.. After reading your posts, I try to start it again.. and presto... it boots nicely, though there was a slightly long wait for Windows to start..
  
  Any idea why this happened? Anything that I need to do to prevent such things from happening again?

  Should be your BIOs.
  
  If it happens again, i suggest you do a backup and time to reformat.

  Common problem after computer can work.
  
  Cannot prevent it. To solve it, just reformat. Will be working like you just bought it, or even faster.

  Yeah, don't close your notebook while doing a full scan ever again.

  Happen to me also. Just give it a few hours and will work again. Wonder why.

  Because the computer cooled down.
  
  Temperature can affect electrical signals.

  or maybe its becos of loose connections. when you shake it a little the connection reattached again. often happens to my portable hard disk

  I wouldn't dare to shake my notebook too much though..
  
  Anyway, the full scan was not completed and I did it again, this time without closing my notebook.. It was fine..
  
  Will try to switch it on later this evening to see how my notebook is still having the flu..

  In fact asking computer problem question here will get some typical answers.
  
  1. Reformat harddisk and reinstall Windoze
  2. Change the hardware like add RAM
  3. Task Manager look for application and kill it manually
  4. Use some software to look for adware, spyware etc and remove it
  5. Use some anti virus software to clean up any viruses
  
  There you have it. The typical answers until I can even remember what will be the follow up post whenever someone post some problems with computer

  There you have it. The typical answers until I can even remember what will be the follow up post whenever someone post some problems with computer

  number 1 and 2 are commonly use which is a waste of time and money. 3 is not common, but useful. 4, you should install a firewall, antivirus and at least one anti-spyware when you use the com for the FIRST TIME. But SOME ppl still prefers installing them when problems pop up... for number 5, this is usually the one of the first few steps to troubleshooting pc problems

  Got then replace lor. If warranty still covers only.

  go to your notebk display and power settings...try not to disable hdd standby so that when u notebook goes running program for long time the hdd will still be active....also there may be options in power settings asking for "what to do when u close down your monitor...something like that...select nothing so that when u slam down your notebook display, the system will not be switched off suddenly without proper shut down. system standby set to "never"

  the reason why you get a blank screen is because your memory usage is very high at that time as virus scan take up a big chunk of it. This is espeically true if you are using notebook. by restarting it, you are causing the program execution to halt suddenly and it still remain in ur mem since it take some time to clear from the ram that why you get some error msg since it doesn't recongise what the content is. normally in this kind of situation, turn off your comp for a few min and restart, problem will be solve most of the time. but there maybe situation where you will crash your OS but it pretty rare though.
