wireless repeater

i live no the 2nd story and my router is on the grd floor. i have been experiencing Disconnections every time and its realli irritating.. my frenz told me to get a repeater but i thought a repeater just increases the range of the router. but does it boost the strength of the signal? pls help. i am desperate

eh i live on the second floor to, but i can receive leh.. highest signal i get is 98%
Is ur router located in a deep compartment of something? Put it in a open space lar.. -

make sure there isn't much metallic objects in between you and the router. It can disrupt the signal and reduce the range. And disconnections a 2-3 times per hour is normal, will usually re-connect back immediately

my signal strength is full bar/excellent.
but also always get disconnected. then when disconnected. never reconnect back. have to restart com then can get back the signal...
how? why like that? is it something wrong with my router/receiver or what? -
somehow i dun think a repeater can improve the signal alot..

hum... a repeater helps to booast weak signals up when signals are transfering through long distance....

No need leh. I can receive my signals.. Maybe there are too much onstacles between ur router and ur 2nd floor pc lar..

You got put handphone in that room where you put the router? Handphone frequencies are the same as router, unless you are using Wireless A not B/G.

keep it at a high position, and far from metal objects.
try also to put it near the window, if the second floor also has windows near there.
consider a stronger antenna instead of a repeater, if yours is detachable, like most. -
make a Pringle can antenna..
it so powerful that u can even get strong signal from your neighbours km away... -

wireless you may have a problem, signal can be prone to electro interferance or blockage like walls, floor etc.
if cable, I think you only need a repeater if you exceed 100meters. mebbe I think change another modem -
