wireless you may have a problem, signal can be prone to electro interferance or blockage like walls, floor etc.
if cable, I think you only need a repeater if you exceed 100meters. mebbe I think change another modem -

sianzz each dction always end up with a 5- 15 min wait before reconnecting .. sigh man wireless sux

Tried moving your router down to the first storey? As I have asked, did you put your handphone near the router? Don't put your handphone near your computer as well. It will affect as well -

i lived on the 3rd storey and my router is on ground but signal still very good leh, like 86% haha..
