How close is close ? I mean do you tell this person all your sorrows, you won't tell your spouse ? Do you feel that this person means alot to you ? Is this person one of your best friends -top 2 ? Then I believe, You cannot be close friends without restrain.. because time can nurture love.
Restrain may be due to commitments to your spouse, It could also mean it's a one sided affair or simply confused, afraid where it lead to or end. I mean if one is married, and are close friend for many years where timing sucks and they has no opportunity to develope this relationship, may be due to self-confidence or interior complex from one party, or simply job commitments.
Honestly, how many EX can be friends without the other feeling odd, and I do not mean relationships that ended due to ailing love.

I know from experience. I even wrote a letter to her, that our friendship would end, when she married. I was out-stationed for two years, I knew her for close to 15 yrs then. Due to my inferior complex, family financial problems in my earlier years. I really regreted not pursuing her earlier, when she hinted. After that, well, Timing also suck, she's attached when I'm not. I'm attached while she's not.
The letter I wrote is truly moving, it was written after her wedding dinner, It was wrtten with my soul. To this day, I do shed a tear or two reading it. -

hmm.. I believe if the girl is a gd fren of the guy's wife/gf also, it's quite impossible for them to have a liking for each other. Coz the feeling of guilt and betrayal will torture them. -

not when they r ur ex and currently attached.
my ex's bf was not happy abt me contacting her.. we sort of jue jiao(ended frenship tie) -
ex quite difficult to be close friends..i know a few of them,but frankly speaking i doubt it can work..it sort of depends on the way the relationship ended...
but yes i do trust in platonic relationships,jus that i haven't experienced one yet
