I treat my maid like a family member. We don't order her around. She does most of the cleaning & washing & sometimes cook (lunch only). She has initiative & she would do her chores without us having to tell her.
The maid helps to keep an eye on the kids and 90 year-old grandparents when papa & mama go to work. -
if you like to order her around it means you have an ego problem.

i will unlock the locker and ask her to lock back.
After work ,
call her to unlock the locker and i throw my shoes , sock at doorstep.
perpare my dinner and ice water.
sometime ask her to buy supper.

Well, I DON'T have a maid, as I DON'T believe in the NEED for a maid.
These days, maids can be rather unpredictable and dangerous. Agencies are "importing" maids from all over Asia regardless of their mental state of minds. There maids that can go crazy in your home over small little issues and kill a member of your family!
I do my own domestic chores. If I'm too busy, or tired, I just call for one of those home-keeping services - really professional, they clean up and tidy up your place and leave with very little fuss.
People are having maids like they have pet poodle dogs, parading their maid wherever they go, showing off by ordering them to carry things in shoping centers - tsk tsk tsk, so friggin unbecoming of Singaporeans.. what I can't stand are people who get their maids to wash and clean up their cheapo Japanese cars in carparks at HDB estates. And even if they do own a branded luxury car, they should do the washing and cleaning themsleves - have you ever seen how maids wash and wipe down cars? In no time, you'll get swirls of micro-scratches on your car's paintwork! -
