my house got not on lift landing floor lah .. too heavy to carry bike up n down .. tat's why left my bike downstairs.
Your HDB lift is those old kind that stop at 1 - 6 - 11 kind? Then too bad cuz mine is newer of which the lift stop at every floor. So for your case, not much you can do about it. Maybe get a foldable bike or move house?

i got 2 of my bikes stolen then from now on i always put my bike inside my hse -

it's hearing stories like this that i am scared to cycle as a mode of transportation lor.
Back overseas, i cycle instead of taking public transport.
then down here i saved up enough to buy a "mid-level" MTB... but i hear so many stories about bike theft that i scared to park lor.
So now when i cycle, it's only for recreation but its tying me down because i will drive to location... cycle around then i must go home. i am scared while parking in public areas... my bike will be stolen along with the bike rack.
So for one year i have this new bike... i cycled less than 20 times. haha.
damn regret.
my usual practice is i U-lock the front tire to frame, thick (1.5cm) cable lock rear wheel and triangle to post/fence, etc.
is this safe enough? but i am paranoid!!! money don't come easily now.
Somemore i got a handlebar and stem that is out of production already. -
I got 2 bikes stolen within 1 week. Dammit!! Never park at the bike stand at Yishun Bus Interchange!! It's a horrible experience...

When i was 10 years old there was this d!ckhead who stole my bike from my corridor, left the lockchain on my gate, and he rode it to his house 4 HDB blocks away from mine. He parked the bike outside. One day i was going to the shop i saw my bike, and i saw the bugger peeping frm the window. Uhh Hmm i was abt to advise how not to get ur bike stolen cos mine never got stolen before until I saw this. Anyway I very kiasu cos I used to cycle MTB quite regularly too.
First line of defence -
Stainless steel chain links, each link about 1 inch, thickness of link about 5 mm each. Heavy like hell, but put in basket lah. Regular wire cutter/pliers cannot cut these. So it is not so convenient for them to remove it.
Second line of Defence
Those rectangular lock that has just enough space for you to put the two links together so they can't cut the bar in between either.
Last Line of defence
Chain front wheel AND body, if possible in place where human traffic is heavy.
But if yours have a quick release seat, and back wheels. It's goodbye to them too lah. -
Sometimes i really wonder how "foreign workers" get to cycle a Santa Cruz or a Marin!!!

i was cycling then got the urge to pee. so i cycle to bishian mrt station to use the toilet there. i park just outsidethe mrt stating where the crowd flow is heavy. right after i come back from the toliet in about 5mins . my bike is gone. and i use 2 lock of the thickest i can find. 1 attach to the body and front wheel and to the stand. the second is around my whole bike.
in 5 mins i wonder what did the theif do, there was nth there not even cut locks . my bike just disappear.
i report to the police and when they ask me who do suspect of the theif i say should be the foreign wokers. then that butch tell me "if u didn't see it u cannot accuse them" then reply " OIE IF I SEE IT MYSELF I REPORT TO U FOR WAD FUN IS IT ?" then the police officer taking my statment pull that butch away into the office.
i still can rmb that butch face really feel like slapping her, talking to me like i am some kind of kid that despise foreign worker. -
The last time I locked my bike on the 10th floor also got stolen, with the lock somemore.
