Recently i heard rumours that walmart is coming to singapore? It sounds ridiculous, but can confirm?
Oh ya...and why are so many people against Wal Mart? The prices are so cheap and the product range is so huge, so why are people against it? -

oh my god .1995 ,wal-mart has been to china .now ,even very small cities has wal-mart too.so why it come to sg so late

of course walmart would love to come here cos' sg have poor protection laws for workers....walmart has a very bad reputation as an employer in america...they pay minimium wage, give very short break and meal times & etc...walmart was recently sued and had to pay employees backdated ot pay for forcing them to take shorter than regulated lunch breaks.... now you know how they can keep costs low....jay leno made a joke about having to learn latin if you want to shop at their stores as they employ many non-english speaking illegal mexican workers and low low wages.

The Wal-marts in North America got sell Shotguns and ammunition.. so can i get the same thing? haha
Anyway, I am against such big corporation coming to singapore leh. It is so many provision shops and so many smaller shops that gives Singapore the uniqueness and the wide variety of foodstuff avaialble.
When i was back in North America, it is because of a few big companies supporting the same brands that your selection for groceries is always the same few brands. So much so that every supermarket will be a duplicate of each other.
Whereas in Singapore now, people are free to Parallel import what they thing is good in the market. So you can get Japanese pocky, thailand pocky, Malaysian Rocky. haha. You can get some many kinds of softdrinks.
once wal-mart come and if they succeed in killing off competition, sooner or later you can only buy brands what wal-mart thinks they will profit most!! I won't be surprised if in future you are only limited to Thai Pocky, Malaysian Kit Kat, Singapore Milo. -

Because they put other people out of work. They are improving but historically they didn't treat their workers very well. -
I miss WalMart so much!!!
At least the stuff they sell is quality material for the price, unlike many local shops that charges too high a price for lousy quality.
