Toys - Then and Now

Hi guys,
Have you guys ever wondered nowadays as you enter the toys section of any toys shop and end up thinking that the qualities the toys in these modern times are nothing compared to what we had way back in the 80's?
Kinda felt the toys now are commercial orientated and has no meaning at all.
Look at Battle Bdaman, Machine robo rescue and such. Kinda felt that it's cartoons and storyline are nothing compared to the past cartoons.
Anyone remember M.A.S.K, Legionaries (Visonaries??), The Transformers G1, G.I.Joe, Star Com( they had magnets on their foot base).
Even the old Tamiya 4WD toys were fun. Our first experience at modifying and tuning cars hehe.
I think there are much more toys than those i mentioned above. Do share if you think of more. -

Why not compare toys of our parent's generation and the toys now? It'd be even more different. As technology improves, of course toys must improve too. Don't really expect the children now to be playing those wooden tops and capteh now.Originally posted by GreatBallsofFire:Hi guys,

Even mobiles phones are commercial orientated. Why can't people now use those Tua Leng Gong Ericsson and Motorola phones since they all have the same use ; making phone calls. -
Thinking back, last time playing marbles is so fun, even betting on it by stuffing coins inside a rectangle perimeter on the sand... And then there's one leg hopping inside the court, used to be so popular that you can find more than 50 students participating in it, everyone can be so fit last time coz if you're good in that sport, you'll be quite popular in school, lol. yeah ... people were more fit then ....
our parents don't faint and go into hysterics when we come back with cuts and bruises ....
and spectacles used to be so rare then ......
nowadays kids stare at monitors and screens for such long hours ..... I think the myopia rate in Singapore is at crisis levels ....

Back in my primary school(not in singapore) we had this game of splitting into two teams on each side of the football field. Then we'd use a tennis bal and throw to the opposing side - the stronger, higher and faster the better. There's no catch to this game just that whoever gets the ball shall just throw it back. Lame but fun..

and the purple truck, and the red car, the green bike, the baddie's purple bike n his sidecar, the black jeep etc, and a whole gawd knows how many more of them -

Parents no money buy toys for me so I get passed down toys. One my favorite are those small little plastic soldiers in different pose and color? I like to stage my own war using those little soldiers. Dark green ones gather one side and light brown gather one side. Then I imagine I general would stage an attack from right to left etc etc... a pretty much mock up battle. Then my mouth will go bang bang bang... then some soldiers will be dead as I push them down. I will also use some household items as camouflage etc etc...
Those toys are still around in my cupboard. Soon I will pass them down to my child hahahaha.....

Yah lor, it feeds our imagination.... Last time if don't have the toy soldiers, even rubbers also can be imagined as soldiers or swordsmen... Nowadays give children rubber they throw away. Speaking of Hot Wheels, you guys remember one toy line by MatchBox where it's a box or something like that but as you open it up its a different story all together? Got buildings and stuff for your toy cars to run on.

Yup something like those.. then there are some boxes which after opening up comes with landscapes and buildings hehe were really cool. And then there's mighty max

I also had little soldiers that I remember arrived when I was 5 yrs old, they are still around but alas! I did not realise that my mum had given them to my cousin to play, and when I got them back, the guns were all broken, still I like them very much.
