it is possible for those intelligent homes
where u can control your household applicances via hp orI believe for those devices, the home muz have something permanently switch on to receive the signal from the hp and then this device will in turn one by one go and on the household appliances.
It is same analogy as modem+PC proposed by one poster. The PC is switched off but the modem must be on to prepare to receive a signal rite? So for those intelligent homes I believe there is one device permanently on waiting for activation and then this device activate the rest.
Above is not truly on in the strictest definition but of cuz if your definition is looser you are right to say this auto on feature exist
