  I think I'll suggest you go for IBM if you got the money. Else Acer, very economical.

  Pentium is a general name for most intel processors. Celeron is a processor model. 2 different things. Celeron is used in the past mostly for laptops with 1.5GHz of speed or less. Centrino is the newer and faster model, therefore its more expensive than celeron. Nowadays you can buy a celeron laptop for around 1.2k or less

  oh yahh....i looking for laptop also. probably will get it around march. budget around 1.3k to 1.4k cos dun want to spend too much money on it....so is it better to buy during the computer fair or through the school? last time my friend got a HP laptop from the computer fair at only 1.5k...specs quite good, 1GB Ram, 80GB HDD, 15 inch screen....cos he got it during the last hr of the fair i guess

  See which place is cheaper lor... Try not to be distracted by the free gifts, excluding system upgrades. Just focus on the specs you want or are willing to fork out. I think its better to buy at computer fair... Skali you buy from school they lock you out with admin account first

  Buy from the fair, coz thats usually the time they claim to be clearing stock at low prices and they don't make commission from it. But we all know enough thats a load of bu||sh|t.

  Last year Comex 2005 when I bought my laptop, the salesmen all wear name tags and the one serving accidentally left his name tag flipped over. I can see all the Acer models and prices (lower than whats shown on the laptop itself) on the tag which may suggest the lowest price the salesmen can give to demanding customers

  Acer -
  Good value for $$$, alot of features build-in but dun expect top-notched quality. Some compatitablity issue with the USB devices. CPU is abit hotter than the better Jap build lap top.
  
  IBM -
  The IBM last laptop which I owned, was build in Korea. Now under the PRC management, dun know can expect the similar build-quality. Normally, the T-series of laptop is very durable, maybe the R-series is abit more like Acer.
  
  Apple-
  Good Quality. But potential software compatitability issues / gitch may present.
  Expect to really PAY and PAY for the MS Office for Mac

  Now is not the time to buy a Mac yet. Wait till at least the next release. And there are few software conflicts/glitches. I think you mean there are little Mac version applications which are built for Windows.
