why use gahmen company to compare?Originally posted by zhjjhz888:yah..NS waste time only.... opportunity costs incurrred in 2.5 yrs is definitely more than $10000 ! 2.5 yrs can work can study ....
u will lag by 2.5 yrs ...your female peers can write 2 years working experience while u can only say NS ...private employers wont recognise NS as working experience.. govt. will only give $100-$200 NS increments..end result: the female peers will have higher pay than u when u start working.![]()
Congrats! you are doing very well!Originally posted by WongCH:dont waste time on degree unless you are certain to go a basic pay.
i'm a diploma holder only but my monthly income is already more than $10,000/mth. well, i'm into my own business.
ultimately, lies on whether you going into business or jobs.
I agree U r making 10K or even 3K per mth ortherwise stick to study for better prospect..a degree is only a paper to show depending who wanna to see it..besides,Originally posted by spencer99:Congrats! you are doing very well!
but How many diploma holders can earn 10,000/mth?
I feel that statistically, a degree holder will be able to earn more then a diploma holder, all things being equal. One can argue and say look at Sim Wong Woo and so on....... But how many sim wong woo are there in sgp.
I believe that if feasible one shold get a degree.... the JC-Uni route only take 1-2 years more then a diploma(accerlated) route.
that route will give you more opportunities in the future......
and if you compare an "elite" dilploma holder with an "elite" degree/MBA holder working in an investment bank... the degree holder s earning 20-50k a mth and have opportunitites to go much higher if he wants to in the future with a more "sure" route.... the biz route might be rewarding. but it has risk and is not certain, not many ppl can make it.
everybody wants to do business, everybody wants to sit high high at the top of the chainOriginally posted by WongCH:dont waste time on degree unless you are certain to go a basic pay.

This theory that u lost a headstart in the money race and will not catch up assumes 2 things.I agree... notice i say "the female peers will have higher pay than u when u start working. " of course you can increase your speed... but the point is that there is already an advantage over you.. something like the opponent got a freekick...
First is that you lost a headstart.
In this case you are right, you lost a headstart. It's obvious, your friend is earning money now, while you are not. You lost a headstart.
OK.
Second is that you will never catch up.
While the first one is an observation, and an envalidated one, this second one is a prediction of the future. This second premise, a prediction essentially, is based on an entirely subjective, and totally unreliable and unmeasurable computation.
It may well be that you will never catch up because his speed is faster, or your speed is slower, or you end up gloriously catching up because his speed slows down, or your speed increase relative to him.
Prediction is thus futile. Believing or harbouring this second premise as true hangs on too many variables, but you seem to have already accepted this second premise now, which is based entirely on baseless prediction of the future.
If you want to catch up with him then you have to increase ur speed relative to him, since you lost the headstart. This is what it matters. Observe which tracks have more speed, and which are not. Observe how people increase or decrease their speed. That's all. Dont indulge in self pity or accept the theory you will never catch up. It's self-defeating.
cant aruge with the fact that that is also a form of debtsOriginally posted by WongCH:anyway, if you study university, you still have to dump in money for the study mah. then, thats also debts.
This is the game of life, it's really fun once you get the hang of it. Since you're already in the degree course, don't stop halfway, complete it that's the best you can do at the moment. I'm a diploma holder but I do get higher than degree pay because I worked really hard for it. I strongly believe that your attitude in life is the main criteria if you want to succeed in life, as well as the people you know. Diploma and degree or master degree means little when you get a job and slack all day long, in the end, the boss only cares what you can produce rather than what paper you're holding. Paper qualitifications will matter more when, assuming both workers are as hard working as each other, then the growth is restricted for diplomas, or lower educated people. You really should give your best shot in everything you do, rather than keep envying others. Jealousy will not do you any good. Diploma or degree, or whatever, I can assure you that if you have an A+ attitude in life, you should be able to conquer almost anything and have a fulfilling life. And a fulfilling life doesn't mean you have to be the richest man in the world, it's just that you have the money to get the things you want to keep you happy.Originally posted by BillGates:Hi All,
I believe most of us here are in our 20s and would have spend 3-4 years to get our first degree. While we are struggling here, coping with studies and the difficulties of being an adult-student (poor) , our peers who decided to start their career first would have gained a headstart.
I had friends who graduated with a diploma and went on to SIM for their degree. Most completed their degree on a part time basis in 2-3 years. I even had a friend who start his own biz and owns his first car in a few months. All these happened while I'm still pursuing my education here. I feel demoralised being left behind, not knowing if I'll ever catch up in the future.
All these led me to think if what we are doing is worth it. Spending this important period of our life studying, paying the tution fees, giving up opportunities to pursue a degree.
I think I'll, at the very best, secure a job with a 2.5K salary while my other peers would have gone much ahead. I can't help feeling demoralised.
Anyone also feels like that? Or can anyone help me feel better?
