  when i have kids, ill make sure they speak english.
  mandarin is secondary.
  ill tell them, learn mandarin. not because you are chinese. but because you learn it so in the future you can do business with the chinese from china and cheat all their money.

  i'm mainly english speaking too but i do speak chinese at times mah.. though i prefer speaking english.. i'm so freaking weak in chinese and i hate it

  I have a Japanese great grandmother, Malay mother, Chinese father.
  
  Learn Chinese in school, when my Mother Tongue supposed to be Malay.
  
  Heck it, I learnt all three anyway LOL.

  That's where you are wrong.Many of my Malay and Indian friends struggle to pass their Tamil, Hindi or Malay.
