question about jc

erm i m going to the sci course at jc.. and then proceed to smu...so how many subjects i have to take..? i heard only 4 rite? 1 gp and 3 relevant subjects..
so can i take economics maths and one geo then 1 gp? cuz i dun want to take chemistry...

you can take 4 A lvl + GP -
NUS/NTU
To apply to NUS and NTU, you need to have:
1. At least two (2) H2 passes
2. Attempted General Paper (GP) or (Knowledge & Inquiry [KI]) in the same sitting
3. A minimum of ‘S’ grade in Mother Tongue Language (MTL)
NUS and NTU will select you based on your grades in:
1. GP (or KI)
2. PW
3. Three (3) H2 content-based subjects and one (1) H1 content-based subjects (at least one has to be a contrasting subject)
You can choose to include your MTL grade if you have done well in it.
SMU (this one is more important)
1. Good passes in at least three (3) H2 subjects
2. Attempted General Paper (GP) or Knowledge & Inquiry (KI)
3. A good pass in Mathematics at H1 level or equivalent
4. A minimum of "S" grade in Mother Tongue Language
5. SAT Reasoning (an advantage)
6. Interview (for shortlisted candidates) -

for arts, u can choose......geography, history, chinese A, higher chinese, english literature, art, MEP, LEP

their standard is comparable. in fact, dun have the idea that it is easy to get in cos intake competition is fiercer than established unis. -
now arts different liao. for the 3 H2's, you will take:
2 H2 Humanities & Arts (econs, geo, lit or hist)
1 H2 Science & Math (maths, phy, bio or chem)
and i believe the H2 science is for those who have to take H1 Maths, which is not the case for our fella here... -
hmmm... if u wanna take math, econs and geo, isn't that arts stream alr? Btw jst to let u noe if u do well in ur math n econs, u can get exempted frm calculus and intro econs in smu...

Seems like I'm lucky I did my As in 2002.Or else I would have done it privately if I were a student today.
Where else can a chap choose Literature, Theatre Studies, Geography and History. -

I did Literature, Economics and Geography in JI.Appealed to do Literature, History and Geography, got rejected.So, not much of a choice.
Did quite well so I have no regrets.But seriously if I were to do itall over again, I would take the private route and study what I am really good in.
Majority of Singaporeans today fail to leverage on their strengths.The options and choices are there, it's whether you have the gumption to move forward and boldly grab it, even if it seems so against the grain..
Remember, sometimes it's just social engineering. -

i like maths and i m doing accounting when i m in smu i dun see any reason y i nid to study those subjects which are irrrelevant -
