Hi, thanks for your advice. All those shares you mentioned are Dividend stocks and the stock price doesnt move much in short term. I will consider these when I settle down.Originally posted by ceciltan:Buy those service support company share.

Cause Company pay dividend only when they make profit, and u try to imagine those above company making losses??
In good time or bad time, people still travelled, read paper, commuicate, perfrom banking.
So this is sure eat one.
One more thing, Share is for long term basis, if u only got 6 months, then dun go into it. The transaction cost is like 1% buying in and another 1% selling it to take profit, so unless the share price move in your favour greatly, u most prob will make much. . I find such stocks more or less similar to dumping $$$ in FD.

Have you considered REIT?
You can have about 4 to 5% returns yearly. -
now is not the right time to make investments.
put your money temporarily in the bank. -
Are you a casual investor or will you spend serious time and effort to trade? If you dont have the inclination then just invest through a fund manager, like in a unit trust, or a fund of funds. If you have higher risk appetite you can choose a hedge fund instead.

uob is 3.08% but 50k & alot more terms & conditions.

DBS $20k @2.728% for 12 mths & 2.688% for 3 mths.
Shopped around with the following critic:
For FD:
Best rate - DBS for sums min $20k - 2.728%
Best rate - Maybank Senior for sums min $50k @ 3.125%
For normal savings:
Best rate - Esavers @ 1.88% with no strings attached but no counter trans or bankbook or ATM card
For CNY, OCBC & Hong Leong seems to offer cans of abalone & sharksfin but i didnt really pay attention.
In the end, I opened one joint Esavers & one personal Esaver and put $
20k in DBS Bank & applied for both DBS Black & Woman cards. Very satisfied with my shopping purchases.
You may want to try HSBC fixed deposit rate is 2.92 pa and DBS is 2.98 advertised in the Sunday Times today for DBS
Lots of ads on deposits today...Maybank extending their iSavvy savings account rate to 2.38% till further notice...only need $5k as compared to eSavers which need $50k for 2.45%...looks good...
For Fixed Deposit,
The best is Hong Leong 2.88%pa for 3months but at least $100K.
Singapore bank fixed deposit rates are very low, as always.
US banks give you 4.24% to 4.75% pa.
Australian Dollar Deposits are >5% pa right now

I was asking for SGD FD with itnerest 4%~5%.. but the info you gave me is around 3% for SGD....
