SG Parents overprotective? Good or bad?

I have a friend whose mother and father set a curfew for him to return home before 5pm everytime he goes out..
He cannot keep going out every week even if its once and HAVE to sneak out before his parents wake up AND his parents considers playing basketball as going out..
He plays his game at home all day and doesn't know his own neighbourhood, Why I know? I brought him there before and then he said he wanna go home then walked off in another direction until I told him wrong liao
He abit siao siao also, Whole day keep tellinh me his weird sexual fantasies until I don't want to talk to him liao.. When I talk seriously to him about his future and poly admission, He scolded me and told me ONLY to talk to him when I decide to talk crap with him like how he wants to OWN EVERY single DVD in the world, One per title.. Told him he would become a bum but he still fantasize about having a 4 storey bungalow when he doesn't have any special talents
He depleted his bank account already and still keeps spending like no tomorrow
He is 16 going to turn 17 this year.. He doesn't know much about things outside, Is it because of his parents protective nature that he became this way?

De only way out is to rebel against ur parents ... sad but true , tat is how i gain my freedom , last time curfew was set at 10 pm , but i always return at 12 midnite , den when it was set to 12 midnite i would return at 4 or 5 am ... that was how i gain my freedom , but brothers and sisters , i understand how u wan to hang out with ur buddies , like going to clubs or chilling out , but pls dont take advantage of de freedom ur parents gave u like taking drugs and wandering around beating or robbing ppl ... once u get caught ur parents will nv trust u again , thats wat happen to me ...
i know that some of u guys do take drugs like xtc or ganja or ketamine , but pls stop is not worth going to prison for 1 yr , if u wanna get high i suggest u guys drink alcohol ... .
bottom of my heart , i dont care wether u are indian , malay , chinese or eurasian , dont do de mistake i did , singapore is a law country , even if u dont possess drugs , but ur urine containt drugs u will be sentence to at least 1 yr in jail for 1st timers , is just noT worth it , u might thing ar i just wan to forget about all my troubles and problems ..YES but once de high is gone all ur trouble will come back to u , i telling u dis is becos i have exprience all dis things b4 , that is why i am confindent in telling u all dis stuffs , if u guys got any problem with gangs or drugs , pls private msg me , i dont mind helping u guys .. as to me , as long as u are a SINGAPOREAN , i will always treat everyone of u guys as brothers and sisters cos everyone is connected quite close to one an another ...

Me also, last time 7pm have to reach home then I came back once at 12++ after that they don't care liao as long as I never do anything bad..

they let me go home anytime i want. as long as i tell them what time i going home beforehand. and provided that i don't do anything bad

Yes correct ... de only way to get ur freedom is rebel agaist ur parents , but pls if u wanna rebel againts them dont take that as an advantage and do sH|t OUTside like going for fights , stealing , taking drugs or wat ....

let me tell u a lil bout my story....
13 yrs old , always after school must reach home by 7pm , but i always go back 8 plus
14 yrs old can go out on weekends but must come back by 9pm , but i always go back around 10 plus
15 yrs old can go out at weekends but must come back by 11 pm , but i guai lan , come back 12 mid nite,
next week , i wan go out they dont let me go out , i run away from house come back next day afternoon
de next week i did de same i ran away from house , came back de next day ..
after dat curfew was 12 midnite , but i come back 2 or 3 am ...
did de same de next week ..
after dat , they dont care liao , and i always come back 4 or 5 am ...
but untill i got trouble with de law , de curfew was back in place .. but that didnt stop me , i keep coming back at 4 or 5 am ..
but since i keep having trouble with de law , in my teenage life , my life as an adult is not very trusted by my parents , even now , as in a few months time i gonna be 23 yrs old , they still make noise when i go out at night and come back early in de morning , all becos i took advantage of de freedom dey gave me , and i when out getting trouble with de law .... -
then try to gain their trust back?

anywway fer me my mum gave me gradual freedom....like 13 yrs old if go anywhere den muz tell her n report to her everything, including wad time come back n stuff like dat........when i was 15 she let me off gradually.....can go out till 12 midnight......den when i turned 16 den was allowed to stay overnight outside but muz tell her lorh....hahah well i nvr abused this b4, n i will make sure i will nvr abuse it......... -

when i was 13, my dad wants me to be back home immediately after school. No mixing with friends. Get scolded if i come home late after 50 mins.
even when going to do project work my father would go to the library to investigate where i am and he said KFC is a place for dealing drugs and forbid me to go to KFC without unless my mum or him is with me.
come home a bit late for a few hrs at 4pm even if it is due to project work punishment awaits in the form of scolding, beating e.t.c

i got so fed up i rebeled when i was 16. I stay till near midnight at a polytechnic before going home. Shouted at me by i shouted back. Was threatened by my parents and in return i threaten back by saying i would leave the house (really make plans for that). Had enough of the way they are controlling my life. Now i have all the freedom i have but the whole thing affected me a lot socially and mentally.
Seriously, some ppl in this world shouldn't be parents -

let me speak from a parent's point of view.
Setting a curfew is hard considering that I was young once and I do enjoy hanging out with my friends, talking just about everything under the skies, sharing our victory stories about our parents, friends or teachers. Those were the days.
but look @ what is out there now. It is like a sea where you can never satisfy its' hunger. There are too many real stories out there that just scare the hell out of every parents.
The one where the gal was kept for a few days and tortured?
The two boys who were dudded the "MacDonalds boys",
The gang fights.
We as parents understand the freedom you desire.
But we are more worried that trouble come to you than for you to make trouble. One wrong look, one wrong move can bring youngsters endless trouble.
Look at Singapore Christmas Party at orchard, I bet many parents would have asked their children not to go, but I bet most went anyway. Then the foul cries of being molest, being in gang fights. No point in "I told you so" stories then, right?
I totally agree that if we, parents were to hand-hold our children, hey, they won't be able to take the knocks of life. They won't know the danger, and most important the consequences of their actions.
Most of teenagers think they are young, they can afford to make mistakes, but hey, one you are marked by the law. This society does not forgive that easily.
However, if a proper framework is establised and trust is establised, then it is easier for parent-child relationship to progress. I was taught that when the child is young, you can correct and if necessary, scold, but once in primary, you need to be their friend, to understand.
Almost all parents wish their child will go forth and grap the stars, achieve greatness, be better in their lives than the parents.
rem the old saying "I eat rice more than...", well, just say that we, parents have been there, done that. -

Before my O lvls ... my parents were pretty strict. But after that, I practically can stay out as long as I want to so long I inform them beforehand.
Anyway I'm 24 this year ... so err ... curfew? -
