they might jus purposely stay back jus to have fun.Originally posted by shade343:There are many students out there who do not necessary get their course of their choices during JAE. Yet some students in poly, who managed to secure a place in the course of their choice, do not study hard and fool around. In the end, they stay back for a few years.
This is not good as it denies other people a chance to enter that course if those repeat students repeatedly holds on to a place in that course.
The same can be said of students who put certain courses for their first choice simply because "its popular" or "they need a space". These students later lose interest in the course which they are enrolled in and eventually ask for a transfer or drop out of poly.
However, such students have already consumed subsidies from the government and in the process, denied another potential student from getting a place in that course.
Do you think such students are irresponsible? Or is the system the cause of the problem?
so many places n courses avaliable in poly. system is oso nt as stringent as in sec sch...Originally posted by shade343:There are many students out there who do not necessary get their course of their choices during JAE. I wouldnt use the word " irresponsible " to describe those who go into poly after 'O's...slack and end up dropping out or transfer course....at a certain age...some people "see the light"....some others may need more time...for guys...if they drop out....2 years of NS should be enough for them....if not...then maybe I will start considering the use of " irresponsible " to describe them....but then...." irresponsible " seems a little...too strong a word.Originally posted by shade343:There are many students out there who do not necessary get their course of their choices during JAE. I know some students who pick a certain course just becaused they needed a place even though they have 0 interest in it. They end up staying back and graduating 3 years later than their peers. 3 years of subsidy will cost the government an approximate $30000.Originally posted by Xcert:I wouldnt use the word " irresponsible " to describe those who go into poly after 'O's...slack and end up dropping out or transfer course....at a certain age...some people "see the light"....some others may need more time...for guys...if they drop out....2 years of NS should be enough for them....if not...then maybe I will start considering the use of " irresponsible " to describe them....but then...." irresponsible " seems a little...too strong a word.![]()
just to add on to ur point...for those on student grant from the govt...there is a condition that if U finish a year of ur 1st course and U dropped out of that particular course...U will not be entitled to another subsidy again...ie...if U want to drop....drop before the 1 year...if not...might as well head overseas because the full tuition fee amount is @#$#$@# high...
