Cop denies sending SMS while driving
I REFER to Mr Ian Sik's letter, 'Cop sends SMS while driving' (ST, March 4).
We have identified and interviewed the police officer whom Mr Sik saw on Feb 24. According to the officer, who was alone in the patrol car, he did answer a call on his mobile phone, but he was using a hands-free kit to converse. He denied using his phone to send or receive any SMS message.
We request Mr Sik to contact DSP Lim Cher Khin, Head Investigations, Traffic Police, on 6547-6104 so that we can investigate further and decide on the appropriate course of action.
We would like to assure the public that police officers will face the same consequences as any other motorist if they are found to have violated any traffic rule.
We will not tolerate any of our officers acting irresponsibly and endangering the safety of other road users.
