Hi, I like to ask a question. Does a fresh graduate have a chance of applying and securing a job which requires few years of experience?

If you have prior experience while schooling, it might work, but that's only for specialised fields like creative media, photography, freelance journalism.

The interviewer at most MNCs will shoot you down with the fact you have no experience. I don't care even if you had one year of internship or industrial attachment!

So chiam ah...Most job postings want applicants who have experience leh..so what options do a fresh graduate like me have? Other than temp positions....

definately not....if u're applyin for a job which requires a few years of experience, seeing that u're just a freshie without any experience... immediately they dump ur CV into the recycle bin :/ Not every company is kind enough to provide training for their employees....they expect U to know 90% of your stuffs on the first day of work....Originally posted by vasteel:Hi, I like to ask a question. however months of internship/ attachment experience may be an advantage....
some companies are willing to accept fresh grads...coz the pay for fresh grads are more affordable to employ.... -

actually, it really depends on what kinda job u're looking for... for certain professions...like IT, if u have programming/software knowledge.. its not hard to get a full time perm job -
just say to the interviewer that u don't mind working irregular hours, overtime, weekends and taking a lesser salary. comfirm u'll get the job.

Of course there will be jobs for fresh grads. How else will fresh grads break into the job market. Problem now these past few years is, how do you keep your job
I've been in business for a while now and will only hire people with the right attitude. Whosoever thinks that having the qualifications for the job will help them keep their job is seriously in need of a brain scan
The key to survival is constantly be on your toes, not be lazy, learn as much as you can and don't rely too much on what you studied(unless you are going to be a researcher or academic). Key is to be street smarts.
Always ask yourself, what do I have to do to make myself different from the rest and what can I offer that most others cannot. It can be a particular skill, a gift for closing deals, or contacts in an industry. SO throw away your books after you graduate.
As I always ask an interviewee...What do you have that I want and not simply because you have a cert.
Remember, Singapore may produce hundreds of grads every year but China and India combined produce tens of thousands of grads every year and so if they are going to cost cheaper to hire and have more hunger, I will hire them and not some local grad who will even debate with me over benefits and entitlements...

qualifications and certificates are nothing. having the right attitude and the way u carry yourself, your image, 1st impression, the way u speak during the interview is most important. my manager who interviewed me don't even look at my certificates.

To be even considered and shortlisted for an interview, you have to send them ur resume first right? If you aren't even given a chance to show up for an interview, what can your first image do? Qualifications and certificates are nothing? Do u know that SIA only employ 1st class and 2nd upper class honours grads (if you're talking about fresh uni grads) for their Administrative Officers position... send them a third class hons resume.. they won't even bother to reply you.... -
If it stated the job requires a few years of experience, a fresh graduate probably dun hv a chance. But u can try to apply with a lower salary expectation.

There are walk in interviews with special instructions written right below its notice, it goes:"Fresh graduates need not apply." So you can safely assume they're not going to waste time on you.
