So whatever surname you have, your ancestor should be once an emperor..
dunno whether that is true or not..
so, it means that having same surname, means you originates from the same source hundred of years ago..
but then again, unless you are related to the person now, i think its probably ok to get married because recessive genes will be eliminated by now...
however, i know some parents or elders are still against the idea, thinking that it is incest...well, your job is to convince them if you ever want to marry someone of same surname... -

Not marrying someone with the same surname just lowers the chances of you having a child with a rare genetic defect (not get retarded children). For most genetic diseases it requires both parents to carry the defective gene and pass it to the child for the defect to express itself. If you only carry 1 copy and 1 copy is ok then no problem. However if you and you wife both carry one defective copy and one working copy both will be normal but there is this chance of you passing a defective copy each to your child resulting in two defective copies and hence the disease will manifest itself. Hence if you marry someone with a different surname there is a lower chances of passing the defect that could be present in your bloodline for thousands of years manifesting itself.
