All Windows will come with Paint. If you don't know where to find Paint, go to Start, Run. Type in mspaint.
Open up Microsoft Word. Press PrtSc and switch to Paint. Press Ctrl + V or right click and select Paste.
Save an upload to an image hosting website and put the pic here. -

Drag the MS Word right down to your footnote then PrtSc. -

I think the objective is to columnise only the main text, while leaving the footnote in just one column. But this is not possible cos the footnote itself follws the main text's format and cannot be columnised.

Open your document.
Go to view, Header and Footer. Scroll down right to end of the page. Type in the words you want in the footer box and click Close.
After clicking close, you will get this:

i tink it's a footnote problem, not a footer problem

hmm, on paper, the footer trick might just work. just decrease the font and add the number and it'll look exactly like a footnote.

mayi, if i use your method, the footer text will interrupt my page number, unless i go and remove the page number <- you know how to remove page number? or anyone?

it will also interrupt ur footnote no if it runs
if u remove page no, it may disturb the other page nos too, unless they are on different sections which will affect the paragraphing in ur current sections n so on n so forth (u get the idea)
from experience, it is more nerve racking to do the formatting than the content itself
issit a requirement that the footnote must be in 1 column? -

and it so happens that this is the very first page of my Intro, and because of the 2 column-thing, i am using a separate file for just this page.......
i didn't want the following pages to be affected with this special formatting.....
i am just wondering, if had needed the 2-column thing to be in the middle of my document, then even more jialat right? -
