  I thought helmets can stop subsonic projectile like handgun rounds or shrapnel but not supersonic projectile like high calibre rifle rounds ?

  The helmat cannot withstand a bullet, it's meant to protect the head from debris only.

  The soldier is hit by a high velocity sniper rifle, thats why the round penetrated the kevlar helmet.
  
  A normal bullet proof or the Thai made silk bullet proof vest that a VIP wears under his garment is able to stop a handgun round.
  
  Wonder why a steel pot or a kevlar helmet is not going to stop one.

  Directly perpendicular impact (see you heng suay) will of course penetrate and BLOW YOUR BRAINS OUT.
