O level retaking issues

Okay, I've got a D7 for my mathematics at 'O' level. I planned to only retake this particular subject privately without any schools because I am not enrolled into any institutions via JAE and appealing. Somehow, I'm confused about National Service. (By the way, I'm 17 this year and going on 18 next February) Will I be called up for National Service before I am enrolled into any polytechnics next year? And does combined 'O' level certificate works?
I hope I can clear my doubts here. Thanks.

can qualify for Poly even if u get a C6?
U can combine certificates of two years.
but if ur results ain't that good, advise u to retake more subjects. -

Exactly what happened to me 4 years ago. I got D7 for Maths, retook and got an A1.
I applied for deferment, but don't ask me under which category, I forgot.
Finished the retake, went to Poly, the rest is history.
Its not easy to take Os as a private, even if its only one subject. The stress is that if you fail again, you are gone. There is no margin for error, you must push yourself to score well. Having said that, it is entirely possible to score well.

I've got 24 for my L1R4 this year. So, I'm thinking if I score well(i.e. A1) for my mathematics this year, I may stand a higher chance to secure a seat in any courses next year.
In the matter of fact, I have already registered for Private Candidate this year and the cost is bloody $136 for only one subject.
So, EXCO, I have to apply for deferment this year or wait until they notify me of my enlistment? -

I suggest U wait until they send U the enlistment letter then U apply for deferment...the rationale is this...to apply for deferment...U need a letter from a school...private school also can...but since U are retaking without attending a school...U have no letter to show CMPB...and I dun think they will take "I study by myself at home" as a valid reason...
so...if they dun send U enlistment letter by the time U retake ur exams...U save on the costs of going to a private school...which is not cheap...
if the letter comes...then bo bian lor...go find a school and get that damn letter for CMPB...
all things said...CMPB's computer system is linked with MOE's and all the polys'....so if they want to enlist U...they will send U letter...if no letter...then most likely they are not looking for U...yet. -

if u're 17 and a half, they'll ask to register for ns loh, so need to defer if u're 17 and a half now or later.
defer need to go private schools and most will at least need you to study three subjects which is very good already since they will lie for u to cmpb say u take 5 subjects which is required for deferment. -

I'm also a failed applicant of Republic Poly DAE. Though my appeal to Temasek Poly hasn't got me any reply, I don't bear much hope on it.
Well, I think I'm going to ITE higher nitec and also retaking O level mathematics. If I can't get to poly by next year through combined certificate, I still have ITE for me to get my butt to poly when I'm year 2.
But I just wondering, is it feasible? -

U use maths to go into poly...U enter a year earlier...but U spend another 1/4 of ur 2nd year in HNITEC...U get another cert...
so all in all...I think the do-well-in-HNITEC route is better for U. -
