Watch your words. I scored 12 for my L1R5, i go to the poly. I don like to study like nard so i go poly. Some of my frins go to those lousy jc, hey 16 L1R5 can end up in jc too. Some jc are really lousy lo so don think that jc ppl are very clever. Btw, for the maths thing, I gotten myself a Distinction and a High Distinction when i was sent by my school for the Australian Maths Competition. Is my maths worse than you??Originally posted by Icemoon:Depends on what you're studying. I think poly students will have difficulty in Maths, for example, compared with jc students. And with so many cross faculty modules to take, the advantage they hold is reduced.

This is a useless argument that goes in circles.
Both institutions offer alternative schools of study. It's all about [b]CHOICE.
Just because LKY, aka the govt, issued the decree that the GCE 'A' Lvl certificate would be the automatic passport into university, many to this day still stereotype (absurbly) that polytechnics are for losers and 2nd tier students.
This is absolute CRAP.
In fact, there are always at least 2 kinds of polytechnic students:
Classification (1): those who CHOOSE to go polytechnics for a specific specialisation.
Classification (2): those who HAVE NO CHOICE but to go polytechnics.
It's obvious that item (2) are for those who performed badly; but then again, which institution doesn't have such students? It's naive to think that item (2) represents the majority of poly students.
As for item (1), it illustrates a group of students who at a tender age of 16, have already DECIDED upon their path and are studying their course of interest and possibly, their future career. What does that speak of their maturity and field of thought?
On top of that, the top 5% of poly students are offered places in the university and this allocation is set to rise in the future, dispelling the myth that diplomas are the limit of their education.
For those misguided few, please wake up. The world isn't square and a school is what you make of it.

The argument is about whether poly or jc students ks more in mapleOriginally posted by oxford mushroom:catch no ball...what is the argument about?
If this is about whether A level cert or poly cert better it's obvious...I will employ poly grads who are trained to do the job I have, whereas A level grads are not much use for me. I need technical knowledge, not stuff about theoretical physics and further mathematics. But of course the A level grads are not going to stop there...they must go to Uni or else they cannot find a good job..

Firstly, the word '[b]STUPID' was nowhere in my post.
Secondly, it is CLEAR that my argument was based on the fiction that many people mistakenly believe the majority of students in poly are there because they form the percentile that didn't make their first choice - JC; when in truth, many are there by CHOICE.

They have not woken up to the new reality
It's sad
