Recommendations for broadband

I've been using 56K dial-up for the past so many yrs & it's frustratingly slow... intend to sign up for broadband finally, any recommendations??
My initial choice was SingNet 3500 kbps but having second tods aft readin thread "be careful when u r choseing ISP"

I would say since u have waited so long...u could do well to just wait a wee bit more if u have no immediate needs for bb...
Cheaper prices are just round the corner...But if u would need it now...
I would say singnet...coz they haven already taken the 1st step in the price war...Take up a 1 year deal and it would be good enough...New isps are also round the corner...Expect more competition

get a short plan like singnet jet pack($20+per month) if u not high volume user or a 1yr contract like singnet1500...

from my experience wif both starhub and singnet...
compare and contrast:
- online gaming: i hav less "lag" when playing online games such as battlefield 2, warcraft 3, world of warcraft blah blah wif singnet. starhub is ok but i think it depends on the area tt u r staying(how many starhub users around). for singnet is doesnt quite matter.
- web surfing/downloading: both about the same, depends on wat speed your broadband is on.
- p2p: somehow i hav faster speed wif singnet(or perhaps because my singnet speed is faster...). but some1 told me tt starhub hav some thingy tt kinda slows down your p2p download speed<---need experts on this. anywayz as the rule of torrent is: your upload speed = your download speed... and singnet's upload speed is really wat they gave u... whereas starhub upload speed is really cmi(from my experience)
so from wat u hav read... u might b thinkin --> looks like singnet is a better choice...!
here comes the killers which pple will look for when they r signin up for a broadband
- disconnection: my starhub disconnect only once in a blue moon... and even if it disconnect it will be up again in no time. whereas(here comes my sad story) singnet just keep disconnecting! even though i reconnects back again in about 15sec it is really really irritating(imagine playin a online match halfway and being disconnected
). some says its the modem problem... well the singnet modem i m usin is 2WIRE and i heard from my frens using the older modem(speedtouch or watever ) they disconnect less frequently... but it still disconnect more than starhub 
- customer service: ... i dont think i need to tell my story about this... starhub customer service wins hands-down
so.... make your own choice

actually considering the vast amount of information that can be found on the internet, many people nowadays are spending more time online. so boardband which offers unlimited access is very ideal.Originally posted by photo_seeker:My friend too. Parents still think Broadband waste money.
furthermore the web pages today are so graphic intensive, it'll take ages to load a website on a 56k.
lastly boardband prices are very affordable. a 512k unlimited plan goes for only $38. that's only $1+ per day. -
yeah, if u intend to spend hours on the net, 56k can be very expensive. the amount of money u spend, u could have used it on an unlimited broadband plan (low speed and cheapest it may be, like 1500, 2000 or 3500) and have a peace of mind cos u dun have to worry about exceeding the time usage.
furthermore, u'll save a lot if u eventually decide to communicate via msn the whole day and not use hp or house phone too much.
to install an additional residential line, installation charges aside, u'll have to pay $25 more every quarter, cos there is the fixed telephone charge of $25 per quarter per line.

i using singnet unlimited bb nw ... so far so gd no complaint
$45 per mth
at first i subscribe for 128k but it upgrade from 128k -> 256k -> 512k
monthly subscription still remain the same
play online game quite ok .. dl thing ok too surf net no complaint as for
p2p .. is depend on the time greatly when u dl yr thing ...

DUN get the jet pack 200mb one....u will regret.....coz u can nvr reallie control the amt of data dat goes in n come out of ur computer.....n it is calculated by both how much u upload n download.....i rather u get the 30 hr jet pack....
