Do laptop and desktop nowadays come with full Windows CD?

Nowadays they do not give the Full Windows CD anymore. It's recovering disc or restore disc.

Why do you need a 'FULL' XP cd?
Do you actually utilise the programs that are in the 'Full' XP cd?
Restore/Recovery CD is a 'ghost' image of Windows XP and various packaged software bundled into your notebook.
findingnewidea, please call up compaq and whack them left right centre for asking you to pay up for another disc. Hopefully your notebook is still under warranty, bring it to them and make noise demanding for the Recovery disc instead of paying for it. (Unless it is written in their manual, you shouldn't/cannot delete the restore partition...) -
Custom made desktops means you built yourself, where got don't have? Unless you order online, ask for this spec, that spec. Even for custom made Desktops (i dont know about standardized desktops), they do not give XP cds...only give recovery discs. -

Just to image that the whole hard disk crash and there gone partition. The Restore CD couldn't do you anything in this case? Does it mean your hard disk can never fail? Once fail, then your Windows becomes illegal? What is the theory?
The laptop has long passed the warranty period. I didn't want to pursue anymore on it. I am considering buying a laptop recently and want to check up the current situation. I will avoid those computer manufacturer who doesn't give away full Windows XP CD. I know Dell gives full Windows XP CD. -
i've got 3 (count 'em THREE!) recovery CDs for my notebook... i put the bastards in the CD-Drive with a blank HDD and.. NOTHING!!

i've asked the techs at work, the techs at Sim Lim, the techs at Sony, they all tell me the same thing.. i need a new copy of xp to get a totally new HDD to boot up!

Compaq, NEC, HP, ASUS dun give windows XP CD. Toshiba does. Dell does too. Depends on the brand you buy. OEM or not is not impt as OEM CD can also be given to you as the end user.

heheh...correction, Toshiba no longer gives the XP CD. knew it from my friend who bought the laptop.

I sell toshiba laptops part time. Last week I was selling at Funan and it came with the CD. Your friend might have been cheated.

sounds like you have at least 3 cds,
1 restore cd to help novice,
1 red cd with full win xp,
the rest are software cds.
that is not bad! -
why not ask around for one?

erm..i have 5 disc in total...but system restore oni ask 4 disc nia...kns..
