the simple way is to open up ur cpu casing and look at the mobo.should be written somewhere on the mobo...if not the lazy way is to find ur computer's invoice/manual and take a look.Originally posted by N|ck:dunno my motherboard what model etc.
Oh and where to get em cheap. thanks.
You even thinking of installing Windows Vista???Originally posted by ShutterBug:Cheap hardware = PROBLEMS
If your PC is more than 3 years old, REBUILD the whole platform.
When Windows VISTA comes, you won't be able to install it if your's is still 32bit.
thats the requirements?Originally posted by ShutterBug:It's really no big deal about installing VISTA.
All that's required is as follows:
>> 64bit mboard with recommended chipset
>> processor minimum above 2Ghz (64bit)
>> 1Gb of RAM
>> a graphic card with at least 256Mb
>> 200Gb HDD
That's it.
Windows is not a hassle if you know how it works, and all the patches.
I am now reinstalling my OS...windowsupdate says I have 52 patches to download...and that's after I already put in SP2....Originally posted by ShutterBug:Windows is not a hassle if you know how it works, and all the patches.

maybe you can post some specs hereOriginally posted by N|ck:I just want:
1.another hard disk(1gb of free space now, power bo)
2. more ram, i only have 512 as of now.
So erm...I just wanna know, if I were to buy any hard disk and the ram components, confirm can just fix into my com? I am worried about compatibility issues, dunno my motherboard what model etc.
Oh and where to get em cheap. thanks.
and you never tell him there're things like SD, DDR, DDRII ramsOriginally posted by nightzip:ok, make life simple.
If your desktop is Pentium 3 or below, your mobo can only accept up to 2gb ram and most probably uses lower FSB speeds.
Also applies for your HDD. If its a laptop, then limits of ram is at 1gb and 80gb data cap.
Else, if your desktop is Pentium 4, above 2.8Ghz editions (generalising ALL architectures, chipsets etc), your mobo can accomodate almost anything, up to 4gb if your using 32bit mobos and up to 400gb on each HDD (no. of HDD depends on mobos). For laptops, its only up to 2gb ram for P4M laptops and up and 120gb laptop hdd.
To check ur HDD and Ram speeds, can open up casing and check.
how to clear the static electricity?Originally posted by mancha:Getting an external hard disk is no problem.
Internal hard disk is as easy as sliding out the present one and inserting back the new hard disk. You need to set the pins for master/slave role though.
As for RAM, check if your have spare slots for additional memory, then buy the same type of memory chips that you have and slot it in.
Its not as complicated as you fear.
Clear the static electricity from your hands before you touch any internal parts.
just touch the metal parts of your casing b4 you touch the parts.Originally posted by R3SsH|n:how to clear the static electricity?
i never do that when i play with the parts inside...
of course i have to touch the casing....if not how i open the comp in the first place?Originally posted by hisoka:just touch the metal parts of your casing b4 you touch the parts.

touch your hands to the metal parts of the casing before doing anything. some times pple left he casing open... or the just happened to not touch all parts of the hand to the casing or whatever. just do it as a precaution if nothing else........Originally posted by R3SsH|n:of course i have to touch the casing....if not how i open the comp in the first place?![]()
